No way that truck is worth that much. Nice looking and nice interior, but those wheels don't do much for it and "IF" that much money was invested, then tell me why is the motor just a basic stock motor and nothing different. I mean, c'mon. If putting in the cash, at least the person could have put in a 600+ motor. But, still a very nice truck. It could be a 30K truck, but any more than that, is pushing it.

I know your doing a Awesome Resto Buck, didn't you say once that you nearly have 30K?
But with out really knowing what went in to that truck it could be worth that much or it could be a bunch of whooy..
ANd did any one notice that when we started the truck it started blowing white smoke?

Yeah...I agree...only way I could see that truck costing soooooooo much is if they had someone else do ALL the work, which is extremely likely. But even so, there is NO WAY these trucks will ever get what was put into them. I'd say it would be nice to have a 'new' 78 like that truck...and 30k really isn't too bad, considering what it would take to build one of similar quality.

Yeah...I think Buck said he has or will have somewhere around 25k into his truck...that's about what I had into Red too for the initial restore. I believe Scott (ranger429) said his short list on his Bronco was in the 20k range...and he'd have to get 30k to turn a little profit after all the miscellaneous things were added up. But if that guy had everything done by a shop, I guess I could see it costing in the 50-60k range...he did say there was 70,000 hours of work in it.

Yes I did see the white smoke...but I'd be willing to bet that was just exhaust moisture...I doubt it's a coolant issue.

No I didnt see any but its was probly just cold. if it was burnin anti freeze it would be dumpin out the exhaust.
Edit: Just saw the smoke but it looks like its condensation in the exhaust or its just cold.

I don't doubt that well over $30K is into it and I don't want to ditch the truck, but to get any more out of it is unlikely. Would I take the truck, absolutely. Would I pay that much for it, no. That's all I'm saying. And I just had to make the comment of why not a better motor than just a stock one if you were going to put so much cash into it. That's all. I do like the interior and the color and i think it would be more awesome if it had some chrome, but the solid looks good also.

Oh yeah...I totally forgot about your engine comment Buck...In that second vid, the guy says that's where alot of the money was at. I guess they spent it in places that I wouldn't concern myself with much. Sure it looked pretty and was chromed to the T...but I'd prefer MUCH more power...I mean hell, the numbers they claimed weren't much better than a stock 460. I figure if there was that much money invested...500 ponies should be expected.

I'm guessing I have around $25K into it right now. Is my truck worth it? Only to me. I'd have a tough time selling for over $15K. The only thing that could go my way if I were to ever sell it is, I have ALL of my receipts and have taken 100s and 100s of pics of what I've done to prove what I have into it.

On a side note......I will admit, the fun I have had into this project does outway the money put into it, but I do have some regrets of putting that much cash into the restore. It definitely wasn't in my plan or budget, but after getting further into it, I couldn't turn back. At one time I was offered some money for my engine when the bottom end was built and almost took it and was going to settle for a nicely built 400 that was half the price of what I have into my engine now, but thought that if I was putting all this time and money into it, I'd build something with a little of HP under the hood. I keep thinking that if I had to do it all over again, would I? I would, but I think I'd start with something that didn't need so much body work to save more money. I didn't do much research at first when I started my project. I actually was going to get the cheap aftermarket fenders, doors, grill shell and whatnot, but after actually talking with people I decided to try and get all OEM/NOS stuff and not even waste my time with the cheap stuff because it never fits right. So, that expense shot up quite a bit.

And since I do have what I have into the build is the reason why I don't have a new truck sitting in my driveway. I've pretty much told myself by doing this build, I would consider it my "new truck" and for my DD, I'd just go with my 03 Explorer I have (that used to be my wifes) that is paid for. Plus, I think my 77 is way cooler than a new truck anyway........just won't get the MPG or the nice smooth ride. But it's COOL.

No I didn't take that at all. I understood what you were saying. I guess I was stating that I do agree that it doesn't take much to rack up a bunch of cash in these restos and I was saying that trying to get quite a bit out of these trucks with so much invested is really tough, including my own truck. Nah, it's all good. YelloThumbUp

You can say that again. But I think your truck would be worth it to me too. I don't think I'd have any problems laying out 15-20k for your truck.

Hmmm...yeah I'm always shocked to hear that you basically started with a bare frame. Definitely adds a little extra meaning to the phrase 'frame up restore.' But I have to admit...I appreciate all the time, effort and quality that you put into my future truck...haha. I just figure I'll let you enjoy it for the next 10-15 years...haha.

Essentially, when it's all said and done, you will have a new truck sitting in your driveway, and you'll probably be money ahead instead of financing a new truck that wouldn't be worth more than 10k in a few years anyway. And yes...the '77 is waaaaaaay cooler than a new 250/350.

Maybe it is full time 4wd, they did have that back then you know.

And the god father brings his voice of reason into the scenario again. I totally forgot that it could potentially have had a 203.

Yes, you, Scott...Pretty sure you could be deemed the god father of these dents. Speaking of which any new progress on the CC? I haven't heard/seen anything since your last post on blueoval.

Well thanks Ben. I haven't got much done on the crew. I went to the shop last week and ended up cutting off the welded on bumper the guy put on it. I picked up an NOS grille shell for it from the guy I sold the shortbed to. I'm going to probably hit it next week and get the rest of the interior stripped and start welding up the left over screw holes that go all the way around the back window on the inside of the cab. They screwed in some snaps to put up a "curtain" of some sort back there. I also have to weld up where they put that license plate light in the B pillar. It will get there, I'm just not rushing it right now though.

I'm gonna have to opt for the latter on that one Buck.

Glad to hear the progress Scott...looking forward to more.
