New argument for efans!

If they are un reliable, why does the factory use them on most cars? I never have an issue with the one in my mustang.

Me neither. Or the one in my Dad's 04 Grand Cherokee...

Ok, let's see a reference that says e-fans are AS reliable as mechanical fans!!

I've already given several references to the problems with e-fans, let's see what you can find!!

And for one more time, I keep saying LESS reliable, not UN reliable!!!

The mechanical fan on my truck went out 2 years ago and made it overheat and not pass smog (CA... 'smiliedoh' ). It was only spinning slowly and you could stop it with your hand. 'smiliedoh'

I just wanted to point out that the majority of the vehicles equipped with efans from the factory also have backup fans mounted to come on when the temperature gets too much.

Which vehicles are you talking about? I've never seen backup fans.

The germans design things to never break, and when they do to not entirely fail. That doesn't make them fun to repair though, they're usually so freakin complex.

Exactly... So where do we draw the line between "erring on the side of caution" and "building a backup car INTO of the car" [confused] I agree that trying to prevent catastrophic failure is probably a good idea (such as using fuses on electrical connections), but building backups for every damned component is just ridiculous. Lets face it-- driving a car is a gamble in and of itself.

Maybe that's why German cars are so expensive... They contain as many parts as TWO vehicles :rofl2:

I had an english professor (who later confessed to be a conservative - I knew I liked her) who said she went on a trip to france. She plugged in the US appliance, blah blah blah.

Long story short, they got the building's power back on and she said the french were carrying on and on about the germans making things to never fail, and the french just designed crappy stuff that was easy to repair. The story made an impression on me, and I noticed that trend was pretty accurate.

Maybe this is too simple, but if you don't want an e-fan don't use one!!!

Everything man made will fail!!!

The thing you're overlooking Chris, the e-fans you're running have already outlasted a vehicle and with you are on to their second life. I think that speaks volumes.
The t-bird fan that I pulled for Tom had over 200k miles on it.

maybe in Caali dual fan setups are illegal ha ha wouldn't surprise me.I have seen numerous vehicles with two fans....no not for the ac....My Lesadillac had two....one was NOT for the ac it was a backup whenever the car got too hot.

I understand now. I thought you meant there was an extra fan in case the regular one didn't work. It's just for extra cooling.
