I can't put much weight into that poll, because it depends on the installers skills. The biggest problem was blown fuses. Was the correct guage wire and the correct amp fuse used? We may never know.

Tony, let's see something from you that says the opposite, that an e-fan is more reliable than a mechanical fan, other than your own opinion?

I never once said that it was more reliable. I said that it was not as un reliable as you constantly state it is.

However, just take a look at millions of vehicles on the road that have factory electric fans. I can find no issues with reliabilty. If it were so, the factories wouldn't use them. To think otherwise is purely laughable. Who should I rely on more? Your opinion, or that of the engineers at the auto manufacturers?

erica's little escort has an e-fan. It's been in there for 12 years kicking butt. She's gone through timing belts, alternators, and a bunch of other pesky things. The e-fan hasn't been one of the problems.

Ok, let's see a reference that says e-fans are AS reliable as mechanical fans!!

I've already given several references to the problems with e-fans, let's see what you can find!!

And for one more time, I keep saying LESS reliable, not UN reliable!!!

I can only find millions of vehicles on the road everyday. That seems as good as a link to a volvo corrosion problem.

In my opinion, both have good points, and both have bad. I've replaced hundreds of water pumps because the fan or clutch went causing an imbalance. Remember the flex fans breaking and drilling the hoods and other components? The e-fans need different diagnostic skills to find an overheating issue. E-fans are a requirement on front wheel drive vehicles with the transverse engines, and their track record has been pretty good. I have replaced many of these fans as well when they've burned up. I think its a matter of personal preference. Whatever headaches you are prepared to deal with is the route you should take.

If you're having trouble with the link in my original post, try opening it in **cringe**... Internet Explorer.

Apparently they've got some site certificate problems that don't jive well with Firefox.

And Bob... I think you'd be pretty hard pressed to find people talking about how RELIABLY their efans are (with evidence to prove it)... What's 99% of the reason someone gets on an automotive website? They don't go through the loops just to tell someone "My new intake manifold is SOOO reliable!"... No, they get on because something broke and they need help "I put on a new intake manifold and it's leaking at the gasket."

I'll give it 6 pages :D

Drove a lot of vehicles with those "unreliable e-fans". I have never once had one come apart and go through my radiator. i can't say that for a mechanical fan. As there are many pros to an E-fan there are also the cons. Unreliability definitely is not one of them. As far as the fail safe mode on the clutch fan always defaulting to maximum cooling I don't buy it. I have had to tie too many of them with a coat hanger just so vehicles can be gotten home.

Sounds like a common theme, eh? :)

Getting back to my original post... Is anyone else blown away by the (dyno-proven) 14hp that the clutch fan robs? I believe it... Just from the FEEL of the extra power I got from the efan swap...
