Junkyard trip... I've got GOODIES!!

Andy and I spent a few hours at the junkyard, had some fun tearin' apart stuff :)

Got my visor clips so I can have the dual clip setup like Andy, haven't gotten a chance to install them yet.

Then we tried to remove some auto hubs so Andy could sell them on ebay but they had some VERY strange mechanisms inside that neither of us had ever seen (and I used to have auto hubs too). So we abandoned that and searched for some stock manual hubs for him to keep as spares. Then his snap ring pliers broke :headbang: so we abandoned that too.

Funny story. As we were trying to remove hubs from a truck, we noticed the axle was sitting on the ground (disconnected from the truck), and rear axle was too... Trying to piece things together and we realized that someone had taken the rear blocks, and front springs... Andy put 2 and 2 together and figured it had a big lift on it. So he says "I wonder if it had 4.10s!" Tag was gone from the rear diff cover -- good sign ;)

Disconnect sway bar, clipped brake lines and such and pulled it out and put it in the truck bed to remove the cover. The fluid was the color of mud, and there was loose dirt and stuff inside, yuck. Counted the teeth -- 3.93s :headbang: Funny quote of the day:

Andy said:
Y'know... Counting these teeth with the carrier in the way is tough. I've always told people to count the teeth to find the ratio, but I've never actually done it myself.
LOL!! The dirty rat has been giving people BUM advice

So here's the piece of resistance, the moment you've ALL been waiting for :D Got some goodies to sell off to the guys here that need 'em:

Taurus fan - cost me $27

Andy and I could NOT believe how easy it was to remove these things. Just a few bolts and it slides right out. Andy got one for his Bronco too :D There were more but these things weren't terribly cheap and I didn't wanna make a business out of selling Taurus fans, and as far as I know there aren't a TON of guys here that want one right now. So anyways, let me know if you need one ;)

300/460 air ducts (2) - cost $9 each

Both are up for grabs. They're a bit different than mine. These ones are made of a softer rubbery material. That accordion part in the middle is real bendy and flexible. Mine doesn't have the flexible portion and it's made of stiff plastic. Anyways, they're both the same shape and size, should be a direct fit for your trucks ;)

Lemme know if you guys want this stuff, I grabbed it for YOU!

Nah. We checked the transmissions on all the trucks and didn't see much. Hey but I did find out there a truck/wrecker type place just up the street!! Haven't been there yet but I'm gonna see if they've got ZFs for sale. I think they specialize in transmission pulls :)

If you're truck has it then it ain't stock.

The small block V8's both came with the pig snout duct that bolts to the top of the grill and pulls air from the gap between the hood and the grill. Trust me.

sounds like they're all spoken for anyway... ah well, I figure there isn't much of a difference anyway.

What's the part number? Maybe I'll just order one sometime to just try it out.

Those ducts look like the one I got from a wrecker, good find.

For those that don't have one , LET the bidding begin , make some money to make up for the time you HAD to spend with Andy ....lmao

Not lately . But soon. :guns:

Hey Lost, check this out. Here in Portland, there is a used car lot owned by the Portland Police. The lot has nothing but impounded cars that were not recovered and they sell each car for 300-400 dollars. There are always at least a few Broncos, vans and F-Series trucks that have no rust and run seemingly well. You could get a car hauler, load up a few at a time, bring them back home and make a killing on these.

Hmm... 2700 miles, $3.50/gal, 8 mpg...

Would cost you $1200 in gas, roughly, and that's one way. Add in meals, motel, and I would bet that the trip would cost $2800.

If you haul three cars on a slant trailer, you have to clear at least $1000 per vehicle just to do a little better than break even.

Do you have any idea how much New Englanders will pay for genuinely rust-free trucks?

Just to give you an example of what New England can do to a truck, here's the shock on my aunt's '89 F-150:

And that's a factory shock- supposed to have the steel outer tube come down and cover the piston...
