OMG it's gonna blow up!! Run!!!!!

LOL it is highly possible that it is just stuff burning off since you had it all apart. If it is getting better. It should be ok if you have no fluids leaking anywhere. Just keep an eye on it. I think you should be ok. I've had the same type of stuff happen. Just check for leaks or anything that can cause the smoke, but if it is getting better it is most likely stuff burning off.

Is it leakin oil anywhere around where its smokin? Or did ya put a plugwire too close too the manifolds?

No leaks anywhere...plug wires are uber long and look sloppy in there, and that was my inclination. I finished everything up last night around 9, so I couldn't see too well, but that's what I'm guessing.

Yeah it is getting better, took it out for a spin at lunch today. Still no leaks (other than the tranny cooler line I forgot to tighten down:headbang: ) and there was no more smoke, but the smell was still there.

Thanks for the input guys.

Maybe ya spilled somethin when ya put it back together and it just stayed pooled in there till it got hot?

Maybe...no more smoking as of yesterday, but I still catch a light whiff of the burning smell every now and again.

Where are you guys getting you door anti-rattler kits from? I just find it rough spending $200+ for some felt and rubber. But if that's the going rate, I guess that's what it is.

Ben, I don;t want to overstate the obvious, but have you tried replacing the striker bolt? Or is it rattling more inside the door? even IF the plastic sleeve on the bolt is still there, they get reduced in size by wear.

Yeah...it's the 'felt' that runs around the window frame to prevent it from rattling.
oops my bad... was thinking different rattle

It's definitely the window. The 'felt/rubber' is literally crumbling and falling out. You can see the window smacking around within the frame. But thanks for the suggestion, never thought to check the striker for play that may add to the problem.

Could you just pull it off a junker?

Not really. This stuff gets brittle and crumbles rather easily. Finding a junked 73-79 F series with a fresh anti rattler kit in it would be like finding a needle in 10 hay stacks. Not to mention, I can never pull them out without tearing something.

I spent the dough for mine through DC and it worked great. I've heard other cheaper versions don't even fit right.
