I found the destructions in the shop manual..apparantly they are one use only nylon grommets...thanks for the input Cliff.

Glad to help. BTW I hope you can get new nylon grommets from Ford.

Thanks Paul. What the hell kind of idiot engineering goes into making transmission pans with no drain plugs?????...what a friggin' mess. And yes, I did leave 2 bolts in...didn't help much.

Great....:headbang: :headbang: :hammer: :hammer: This project is bringing up repressed memories...no wonder I didn't work on vehicles for years unless I really had to.

More progress...I should have bought beer :D.
Neutral switch off with lots of grime:

The offending nylon grommet...if I had just payed better attention to the shop manual, it 'splained it, except I didn't have the funky tool:

Linkage removed:

Lopped of the exhaust pipes to make transmission pan removal easier:

Didn't help much, it was still a big freakin' mess:

Out with the transmission and transfer case:

Next will be a clean up of the floor mess and seperating the transmission/transfer case. Then a bit of figuring out and organizing the garage so I can get the box off.

Oh that is going to look so nice.

Thanks Cliff..I hope it does!...the neighbor talked me into it after I looked at his GTO. It's not badly priced if you can do the whole lot in one shot and I compared it to a 2 stage epoxy and there wasn't much difference.
I'm going to sound deaden everything with various products as well.

I will try to detail it (the thread) as much as I can. I have already talked with the body shop and taking pics there will not be a problem.

Sweet wish I can do that to mine. But I need my truck.

Looks good Duncan.

Your pictures remind me, I was gonna go out this afternoon and check the condition of my front D-shaft. I for some reason never even glanced at it. Unfortunately, I fell asleep on the couch, and now it's too dark.:headbang:

Why not? All you need is a flashlight, it's big and round should be easy to find.
