It was in an old truck the dizzy was a little dirty and I cleans it up the plugs are all hooked up. The only other things I can do now without tearing it down is the air filter and a carb kit then tune it up. All the electrical components have been replaced other than the voltage regulator and alternator but the battery holds a charge for a day or two. I need to change the oil pan gasket so maybe ill tear that out and clean up the crank shaft and oil pump before I put it back on
itdidn't make a difference. called napa and they said the carb kits for my carb are obsolete they can't even special order them anymore. so i either take a chance with ebay or i go buy a holley carb or something to throw on the old girl. i'm gonna tru cleaning the carb out in a couple hours hope that helps she barely wants to stay running right now.
Probably not I found a few online. Tire the top of the carb off and it looked really clean and nice then before I did I ran carb cleaner through the top of the carb and sprayed some down the fuel line that helped for 20 minutes then took the screws out an 1/8th turn and it seems to be doing a lot better I think my timing and stuff might be out of adjustment
my timing is set to 6 on my truck. so i guess thats not really the problem unless it needs to be set higher or lower. it keeps wanting to die on me and when you give it gas to save it it spurts out of the carb and shuts off.
i have gone threw everything now other than the vacuum lines. any suggestions now?
If you gas puking out the carb, then I'm guessing a carb issue...needle/seat perhaps...shooting a bunch of cleaner through the butterflies doesn't do much....maybe takes off some varnish on the venturis...but not much else.
Complete rebuild....not really that complicated...you need some toluene or xylene as a cleaner and a rebuild kit....give yourself 2-3 hours....lots of q-tips and some drying air.
