Ok im headin to my parents tomorrow where all my junk is...if it didnt go on last load of scrap ill pm ya.

Got my truck home today. Wouldn't hardly go above 45-50 all the way home. The its ridiculously load and the driveshaft on the front runs on the exhaust and makes noise. An old time told me to try and find aluminum heads and a good small four barrel for it am throw smaller tires on. Any cylinder hea suggestions?

I think that I`d start with a compression test and making sure that every thing is in tune before I change any thing at all. Unless the engine is whipped or there is some other problem it should at least be able to get up to speed.

Was it spitting and sputtering? Bucking and chugging? Or just had no power?

Could be any number of things ranging from something as simple as needing a carb rebuild all the way up to needing the motor overhauled....

Btw...that air cleaner musta went bye bye i couldnt find it...ill look one more time though...

Get the engine figured out before throwing things like heads and carb at it.

It was running good but wouldn't go faster than 50. Idk if it was in 4wd or just geared high or what. I started to sputter after it pissed me off and I took it through the field and it heated up a little bit but other than that it wasn't doing anything goofy just had no power. When I put it in 4 LO it seemed to make a difference. I'm trying to get some 33s for it and if worse comes to worse ill go get a good 390

If it was geared high, then you would have a high top speed.
You need to go through the engine in a methodical manner to see what (if anything) is not up to snuff.

Carb is out of adjustment for sure. It sputtered when I got it home. It has auto hubs could it just be in 4wd and not want to move? It was also not wanting to down shift when it should have. I'm not sure what it is. I didn't have trouble with anything on my way home other than top speed and acceleration. It runs good decent though. Had a complete tuneup.

Auto hubs....do you mean full time?...or do you have the dials on them?
What all did you do on the tuneup?

I think it's full time. My step dad told me to go get manual hubs for it. Uhm the tune up consisted of the usual oil and filters spark plugs cap and wires.
It also got a new coil brain and terminals as well as solenoid. The full time could be my problem couldn't it?

The transfer case has 3 or 4 settings I think. The old timer said it has the 205 in it? With a heavy front end

If it is full time, then you will have no dials on the hubs. To convert that to part time you need to put free running hubs on and make changes in the transfer case.
The only thing the fulltime will do is hurt your mileage a bit...it shouldn't prevent you from getting up to or maintaining speed.

If it is a 205, then you have a part time unit.

If it is a 203, which is fulltime, there will be 5 settings.

Here is the knob guess that's 5 settings

That is a fulltime shifter knob. Nothing wrong with them at all...just the slightly lower mileage.
In some ways they are nicer as you can run them on a dry surface and not worry about driveline bind...when not in "lock"....when locked, it takes the differential out of the transfer case.

Pull your plugs and have a look at them and go from there.

I will Friday. I won't be home until then if they are all good and check out what should I check after that?
