    Parking Brake Cables

Is the spring suppose to completely surround the cable from the entrance in the back to the end of the cable. Mine covers about half of it.

    Parking Brake Cables

I installed new brakes/cables on my 1973 D60. I am having problems with the cable coming off in the drum. I tightened the cables and it still comes off when I release the brake. How can I keep them on?

    Dana 60 Rear torque specs

I just did a break job on my truck with a dana 60. When I put the hub back on and tighten the retaining nut it will not turn. I can back off to about finger tight and it turns fine. Give me some ideas. I put a new seal in and packed the bearings.

    Parking Brake Cable

I have a 1978 3/4ton 4x4 with Dana 60 rear axle and I am trying to get the right/left cables that hook to the brake pads. I have ordered some for a 3/4 ton and 1/2 ton 4x4. The 1/2 is too short and the 3/4 ton is too long. It needs to be around 8". Does anyone know what I need? I don't know...

    Rear Brakes Help!!!!!!

I am not talking about outside of the hub. I am talking about b/t the fitting that slips into the back of the hub and the slot that it goes in. It is about 4-5 inches too short.

    Rear Brakes Help!!!!!!

I have a DANA 60 3/4 ton rear axle. When I bought the truck the emergency brake cables were not hooked up so I removed the hub and put the cable on and they are too short. I am thinking these cables are for a 1/2 ton with whatever was in it. Are the cables different lengths or what? If so I...

    Better Starter

whatever you buy, the heat wrap is cheap insurance b/c heat will really make one wear out quick.
  10. Kealhofer1@bellsouth

    Better Starter

I had the same problem and all you need is a $10 fix. Your exhaust is getting your starter hot. Buy a starter heat wrap and use 2 big hose clamps to keep it in place and your problem will be solved. I think I bought mine from Jegs or Summitt
  11. Kealhofer1@bellsouth

    Let's talk exhaust...

I would go with Flowmaster. You can get a deep aggressive sound without the popping or crackling sounds that you are talking about. Go to their site and you can hear the different models.

    Steering box rebuild, worth it?

Buck I sure like your truck. We must think alot alike. Look at my photo gallery. I only wish I had your motor. Mine is a 1978 F-250 (swb) 4-speed/429.

    429scj

Can the crank and rods from a mid 70's 429 be used in a 429 scj block with 4 bolt mains? I have a 429 in my truck now and was wondering if I pick up a scj block and heads will the rest of my stuff work or is there more differences than I realize
  14. Kealhofer1@bellsouth

    429scj

    Are you CRAZY????:hammer:
  15. Kealhofer1@bellsouth

    429scj

I have found a few scj blocks for around $1000. I think the only difference is it being a 4-bolt main. I am going to have to do something before too long and I can't make up my mind.
  16. Kealhofer1@bellsouth

    429scj

I know a 460 will have more power, but the 429scj will be plenty for what I want. If you could put any engine in my truck what would it be and why?
  17. Kealhofer1@bellsouth

    429scj

I may be able to use my crank and rods, but I know I will need a block and heads. I just thought that would set the truck off. What engine would be cooler than that in your truck?
  18. Kealhofer1@bellsouth

    429scj

I have a 1978 f-250 It has a 429 in it now that will need to be rebuilt soon. I was thinking how cool would it be to put a 429scj in it. What do yall think? Do any of you know where one is for sale?

    hard starting

I don't have anything on my headers, but I need something b/c they really put off some heat.
  20. Kealhofer1@bellsouth

    hard starting

I bought some header wrap and I couldn't get it on the header very well b/c of clearance, so I took the starter off and wrapped it with the wrap. I put it back on and it seemed to fix the problem. The header is only 1/2" from the starter so I know the starter was getting very hot.
  21. Kealhofer1@bellsouth

    hard starting

the battery and alt look good. I have headers that get pretty hot and is only a few inches from the starter. I am thinking the starter is getting too hot from the headers. anyone ever heard of this?
  22. Kealhofer1@bellsouth

    hard starting

why would my engine become hard to turn over after I turn it off. It seems like it warms up and runs ok but barely turns over after you turn it off until it cools down.

    429 Timing

I have a 429 4-speed 3/4 ton 4x4. I just installed a new accel Dist and I need to know what I should set the timing to. It has performer intake, edelbrock 650 carb, headers. I don't know the gear ratio, but I assume stock gears for a 1977 3/4 ton 4x4.
  24. Kealhofer1@bellsouth

    Water Pump Leak...any ideas?

I just installed a edelbrock and so far it seems to be good. It is aluminum and is very well made. I guess you get what you pay for. Go ahead and spend a little more money and get a good one

Getting the best HP out of my 360 FE

If I was going to pull the motor, I would go ahead and drop in a 429/460. You will have plenty of power stock, but you would always have the option of adding little things to it to pep it up. If you spend all that money on the 360 and it is still not enough then what???? You can order a...

    Deal or Not

    4x4 I don't have any pics, but I would say about a 7 out of 10 for a unrestored 78.

    Distributor wiring

I know accel's wires. Your diagram shows the three wires that go to the dist, but it don't show which wire goes where.
  28. Kealhofer1@bellsouth

    Deal or Not

1978 f-150 351m 4 speed. It is in decent shape a few small dents on the side of the bed. a little rust in the floor, but not bad. no a/c, runs good. $1,800. I don't really need it, but I have bought plenty of things before that I didn't need.
  29. Kealhofer1@bellsouth

    Distributor wiring

thanks, but that don't show me which wire goes where on the dist.
  30. Kealhofer1@bellsouth

    Distributor wiring

I bought a new Accel Dist and coil for my 1978 429. The plugs do not match so I need to know what the three wires from the truck go to. The distributor has a red/black/brown. The truck has three and my Hayes book tells me they go to the dist, but don't tell which is which. I also put a test...
