429 Timing

I have a 429 4-speed 3/4 ton 4x4. I just installed a new accel Dist and I need to know what I should set the timing to. It has performer intake, edelbrock 650 carb, headers. I don't know the gear ratio, but I assume stock gears for a 1977 3/4 ton 4x4.

Start low and go til you hear pinging. Once an engine has been modded the factory timing is just a starting point.

Gear ratio has nothing to due with ignition timing.

Stock should be around 12-14 BTDC...but as Lee said, that doesn't mean much now...but you have your starting point.
