Well my son helped me run codes. I was sent this link from else where. There is a chance none of these codes are right.

http://oldfuelinjection.com/?p=13

So going to O'Reillys was a waste of time. My Son got my multimeter out and following that link got 3 sets of numbers.

1st test 12, 32, 24, 33, 22, 1

2nd test 12, 33, 22, 33, 33, 2

3rd test 12, 32, 22, 33, 32, 2

BTW one thing was really weird. This made a 4-5 thumping noise after the fuel pump cycled. So I am guessing this is a vacuum can?

yep, that is a vac reservoir. It only stores engine vacuum.

code list here: http://www.extreme-check-engine-light-codes.com/Ford OBD1 Decoder.htm

I would disconnect the battery and see what comes back again. Some of those can be from simply having the sensor unplugged. The tps and map will affect idle quality for sure. the 88 wouldn't idle, then it would rev on its own sometimes.

Thanks Roger. One ? number 22 [FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif] manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor circuit out of range. Mine is speed density

Speed density still uses a map, but not a maf.

That would be the deal. It reads engine vacuum to assess engine load. High vac=low load, low vac= high load.

Left hand typing lends to incomplete thoughts... the tps was bad on the 88, making for weird idle issues. Since replacing, no issues.

Hi Cliff, got a list of checks for you that can affect idle when engine is at operating temperature. You can check them with the codes.

idle stop screw, it's actually quite sensitive
TPS faulty/plugged in ,good connection
throttle body/clean?
no vacuum leaks
EGR valve
IAC clean
harness's plugged in fully and tight

hope this helps

sets the throttle plate position base setting. Some are capped as they typically are factory set and not intended for adjustment, although many times need it anyway. The tps will affect idle speed as well. I plugged in the new one before changing it, and changed the position, which raised the idle all by just simply moving the tps sensor.

Went to the wreckers today. Picked these up on the cheap. I also got a locking glove box latch. Roy I will need your advice on how to rekey it.

Hi Cliff, I had typed out the instructions on how to change the tumbler but I guess I took to long and the site logged me off :(
lost all that I typed so I'll do it tomorrow for you. I'll try to add some pic's, I didn't take any when I did mine, but it should all make sense.

Ok Thanks I will look for it.

Well I got a little done today. I should have sanded and primered my valve covers I just bought a week ago but I didn't. I just painted them, plan on getting some nice aluminum ones later. I also painted the upper intake.
