Wanted to see what you fellas thought first.....

So, the story goes is that you fellas know I have my 77 and it's all done up showy.

We want to pass it down to Brett, our little boy and we are in the process :nana: of trying for another and she REALLY wants to be able to have another rig to pass down that is similar in quality to the one we have. We know that we may have a girl, but heck, girls like trucks also and even if she didn't want it, it's no big deal, we could sell it or whatever.

Anyways....saw this and thought it might be an option. smilieFordlogo

Thanks Roy....it is a nice rig for sure. The only thing is that it wasn't a frame off resto....miles are low though.

There are a ton of these trucks still going strong that never went through a frame-off. Mine is one of them!

That thing is beautiful! I love the stock appearance..I actually prefer it..that truck is all class! I'd grab it if you can, Ken. I'd be tempted myself if I had the coin right now.

Nice truck. Some minor stuff. Because a CD player was added to the truck, that means that the radio/heater bracklet has been cut and will no longer be able to hold an original radio. There are replacements available on E-bay regularly, if you want to reinstall the old radio. If you go with a retro style, newer version like Duncan will be using, then you will still need to replace the bracket.

Is it possible to bore a 360 engine to a 390? I'm thinking not, but I'm not an engine expert.

They did the compression test, but either they mislabeled the test for cylinder #2, or they didn't do it. They list a compression test for cylinder #3 twice. Probably just lost track of the cylinder count?

What a ride... If you're in a position to buy it and store it, that would be hard to pass up. Classy!

I'd hold out for a 1979 model. And you have the time to. The 78 &79's have alot of upgrades from 77's.

That's where I'd be at as well...or find a twin to your truck ken. You can buy a lot of truck for 8-12k, it's not something I'd rush. There are plenty of these trucks around in as good of condition as that truck.

Stock is pretty cool.

We'll definitely go aftermarket with the sound system like in my 77, so that shouldn't be an issue. But SUPER catch on the compression test....probably just a simple mistake and something easy to verify.

We do have plenty of time....economy isn't going anywhere....the only thing I'd worry about is if Romney wins and gets the economy going again, prices for nice restored rigs will go up....if Obooboo gets reelected, I'm set for another 4-6 years of a downtrodden economy and these trucks will get even cheaper!!!

I hear ya Ben...thanks. I trust you guys a lot with these kinds of things....our thought process was, if we offered $8 and put in another $3-5, it could be as close to a twin to ours as possible. smilieFordlogo

What are the major differences after 77?

I know they went with the new grill and square headlights. But drivetrain and motor should be similar, right? Same gear-to-gear Tcase? C6?

Also, just so you fellas know, I've been looking the last few years and there's only been one or two that we'd consider and this is one of them. The other one, I regret now not buying was the F250 from Scott, Ranger429....damn that was a good build! Price was right also!

Off the top of my head: Improved power steering system; gas tank OUT of the cab. My brain is vapor locked....what else, guys?

I wish you would have got Scott's, too!

Married transfer case. Not sure when disc brakes were added. Better electrical system.

I think disc brakes up front were used after 1973, depending what size truck you buy.

Also had a change in the power steering configuration. The neutral safety switch was moved from the steering column to the transmission. There are also several changes between early '78 and mid'78, such as the heater blower switch, ignition switch. If you get a truck with a midship gas tank, there are several parts that are no longer available, such as the gas tank itself, and the inserts for the fill line and vent line.

Depending on what '77 you buy, the highboy frames are narrower than the later frames.

1978 was the last year for the F-150 to have a non-catalyst emissions system(except trucks delivered to California).

1978 was the first year for the lariat.:D

Very nice truck there for sure. I don't think you'd go wrong as long as the truck is as good as it looks in the pics. There are some drawbacks of the early highboys (closed knuckle front end, in cab fuel tank, power assist steering), but I do love that stock look. If everything is in nice condition than nothing really will go wrong anytime soon. The power assist steering seems to start leaking at some point and may need to fix which parts are a pain to come by.

I thought 77 was the first year for the non slave cylinder style power steering? My 77 has the same Power steering as my 78....plus it does not have a suicide tank.

I like the looks of the 77's better then the 78/79's.

That 75 is sweet though...id defintaly drive it.

77 250 4x4's after serial number Y20,000 will be like the 78/9's.
