Got the new Derale transmission pan on tonight.

The pan has what they call "tubulator" cooling technology. Basically has tubes that run from the front, through the pan, to the rear; with spiraling fins inside the tubs. The air flows through the tubes and cools the fluid in the pan. It also adds a much needed drain plug (magnetic). Speaking of magnetic, I forgot to swap the large magnet over from my old pan :( I'm really pissed about that.

This is just one more step on my way to make my truck ready for towing our new boat. I'll keep this truck updating with any findings about the pan. The hottest I have seen my transmission since I installed my trans gauge last weekend is 150* F, and that was after driving for 45 minutes, and RIGHT after kicking down two gears and running high RPMs when merging onto the freeway. I don't think I can get it much hotter than that without pulling some weight. I'll ya'll posted.

I have seen people on other forums install those pans. They seem to work.

I always wondered how you would keep the tubes from getting plugged with mud and dirt though. Any ideas?

Does that pan have a higher capacity than stock? It looks like it does.

Good point about the tubes getting clogged. I would think some high pressure water and air would do the trick. Fortunately I don't really take my truck off-road (yet) so that should be a problem for me. If I ever do take it off-road maybe I'll plug the holes with some putty or something before touching the muck.

And yeah Brian, this pan has an extra 3 quarts of capacity over stock.

Hahah shush Brad. I didn't have time to clean up the pan because I was using my family friend's shop up the street, and he wanted to head back down to the bay area tonight, and I was holding him up. I'll clean up the pan tomorrow if I get the chance.

It's so nice having a friend with a shop :D

Sorry for the crummy pics. My camera ran out of power so I had to take those with my phone.

Yes sir it is. Every time I go he's got like 10 new pieces of equipment. He's got a huge professional grade Matco toolbox which he stocked FULL of Professional Craftsman tools, he's got EVERYTHING.

Then theres the central compressed air outlets around the shop, small sand blasting cabinet, a press, 2 lifts (1 frame, 1 four-post), a drill press... I must be forgetting things...

Is your friends shop where he makes his living? If not, and it's just for hobby, he just set the benchmark for our garage workshop thread!!!

He actually just bought the house up here several months ago. He currently lives in the bay area ('bout an hour and a half from here) and he bought this place with plans to move in in a couple years. For now he just comes up on the weekends and maintains the house, and rents out the space to bring some money in.

Yes thats right, this shop is at his SECONDARY house :D

When he bought it, the only big piece of equipment there was a non-assembled four post lift. Everything else has been added. I helped him install the frame lift. Man its a ***** to sink those huge studs into the 8 inch deep concrete! Speaking of which, he bought a brand new Milwaukee impact drill for that :D

The more the merrier!! There's a second lift there ;) I can only use the frame life, my truck is too long for the 4 post, my rear tires hang off the back.
