Ok thats good to know. I likely would have just bolted it on. Then regretted it. Glad I found this place. You guys are alot of help. I am going to pick up injectors today. Pretty expensive in canada. But its a place to start right. Has new injection pump and lift pump. Any tips on bleeding after changing all injectors. I anticipate a very stubborn truck after.
Are the injectors coming with a return line kit? After you put the injectors in, lube the tops of them up (where the O-rings sit) with some kind of oil. Lubing them makes the o-rings less likely to knick/tear when you put the return line caps on. Also, be sure that ALL the old fire rings (little copper washers) come out of their injectors bores...the new ones that should come with your injectors need to be used and doubling them in the injector bore will cause nothing but leaks. It won't be too bad to bleed the system....Mostly you'll just need a good lasting life on your battery, so if it dies short make sure you have a battery charger nearby. When you go to fire it up make sure you have all the injector lines cracked loose to purge the air. Then, as you see fuel come out, tighten the connection down one at a time.....Good luck, it shouldn't be too difficult.
Yeah everything is cheaper south of the border. Wish it was easier to ship things but so many taxes on it. Not worth the time. And the truck runs better now. Still smoking. Hope its just diesel in the exhaust.
Oh and to clerify I meant since two bad injectors were nfg and had so much fuel left in the exhaust system I think the fuel that is burning now was put there before I changed the injectors
I am wondering myself if the compression might be lacking . Although it doesnt seem to start that bad. The passenger side rear injector was loose. The hole was severely carboned up . Both sides rear cylinders run ten degrees cooler than the others. I also noticed that there seems to be foamy fuel coming when the lines are cracked. I tend to think its compression coming up the injectors. At any rate . I have twins on the way and the nursery is more important than the truck apparently . Dont get the time I would like to figure it out.
There shouldn't be any compression leak through the injectors, especially being new. If so, they aren't right. The foam might possibly point to an air intrusion. How does it run? If it has an air intrusion, it will be a bit rough. If it starts good, the compression may be good, diesels don't like to start with low compression.
Only two injectors are new. Awful pricey up here. Anyone want me to mail them a money order I would have a huge parts order for a few wrecks I got lying around. The injector pump was new recently. Ran good apparently. Whatever happened failed on the highway . Just started blowing smoke a hundred miles from town the guy said.
