FYI,after i found out it was going to be a daily driver,i voted for the 300.

great engine for your application.

^^^ I agree. My dad has a 300 in his 79 F150. less than 2K on a rebuild (if i remember right, its less than 5K for sure) that he is taking out to put a 351 in. The 300 is now mine, I just need to find a truck for it. :) Maybe my 72, who knows.

how much do you want to spend? I have seen builds of people putting modular motors in older trucks. 4.6 would probably get you pretty decent mileage, but at what cost, I dont know. :)

I don't know how hard of a swap that would be. But it is a good alternative since the older trucks are lighter than the newer ones.

Now I am curious if anyone has done that kind of a swap?

There are all sorts of present day engine swaps into older trucks on Hot Rod forums.
 
Cliff, if you don't have to prove anything to anybody ,the 300-6 is one hell of a tourqing motor. I've had one with a manual trans and 350 gears and it was great around town and 4 wheelin. But it lacked umph on the highway after 60 mph
