I've given it thought a few times... After putting in this t-bird fan I'm not quite as concerned about it since it covers the part of my radiator where the tranny cooler is... I may do it eventually if I run into problems.

This little tidbit likely has a bit to do with your heating, since you were having to also overcome the trailer brakes. I don't think of the surge brakes much as I don't run any trailers that have it, mine are all electric. Handy brakes to have if you need them, just have to remember to disable them when backing, since that will engage them...
