So I'm trying to get a Bronco tank to swap into my truck. Got a guy on another site with an 87-92 bronco tank that he'll sell me for $50, but I wanna make sure it'll bolt up to my truck the same as a 92-96. I know the pump isnt the same so I plan on adapting my pump with a longer pickup tube.

Will this work?

Yes, the tanks mount the same from 80-96.

There are differences in the size of the sending unit hole though.

You will need the bronco sending unit. The fuel pump looks like it will mount up, judging by pictures, but I'm not sure.

I assume your doing this for larger fuel capacity

What's your current capacity?

Yessir. My truck only came with the rear tank since it started as a reg cab / short bed / 4x4, before they stretched it. So I can only carry the 18 or 19 gallons or whatever that rear tank carries.

If I remember correctly the Bronco tank conversion requires you to relocate the spare tire.

Yes, because the tank is deeper, which is about the only change, other than the sump being further down and you will also need the Bronco straps.

That seems like an oversite on Centurions behalf, because with a 351ci. and only 18.2 or 19 gallons.

That kind of makes it a pain for traveling. Stopping for gas every 200 miles or so.

Considering a normal shortbed has a capability of a 18.2 rear tank, and a 16 front tank, it does seem to be an oversight on their part...

Cant have a second tank even though there's room after the stretch, I bed doesn't have a 2nd fuel door. And I do know I'll have to relocate the spare. Haven't decided what I wanna do about that yet.

Do you have a full size spare? or the factory spare? Your gonna have to strap it down in the box somewhere, do you have a toolbox?

Get you one of those Baja light bars that mounts the spare at an angle behind the cab.

You're correct about a 2wd truck. But a 4wd regular cab/short bed did not have the dual tank option from Ford-- they couldn't squeeze the tank in next to the transfer case.

My truck left Ford's factory as a regular cab short bed 4wd, with 1 tank (only option). Centurion got it and stretched it. It's more Ford's fault than Centurion. I suppose they could've added another tank but they would have either had to do some fab and paint work on the bed or replace the bed completely. I don't think the added cost would have jived too well with the customer, especially since the stretch alone was $8k on top of MSRP.

It's a factory sized spare with no tread and lots of cracks. It probably doesn't hold air anyway... I'm thinking of just doing away with the spare; my insurance includes free roadside assistance/towing and I don't feel like buying a full spare tire anyways.

Also gave some thought to using a bedside mount for the tire and everyone here shot it down, especially Brad. He pretty much chewed me out on the phone and said something about how I'd be ruining the image of "his" truck :rofl2:
