Well. Im about 95% sure i hydrolocked my motor today.

We got out of work early and a buddy of mine desided to take my truck down a closed road. Well i had it in 4 low doing great (Just deep ruts) And there was a pretty decent size mud hole at the end. So i gunned it. No bang, no water even hitting the windshield and then it died. Just quite, no booms or anything.

So i tried starting and it seams like the starter wouldnt turn the flywheel. So i poped the hood, and there was one wire off, so i cleaned all those off, cleaned under the cap, and restarted it, turned over once and then nothing. I took my air tubes going to my TB and there was a TON of water inside there, Took the air horn off and my filter was soaked. I looked at my front end and i ripped off my lower valance. All its doing now when i turn it over is DING DING (Im assuming the starter trying to turn the flywheel...

I got it towed home, took my air tubes going to the TB off and there was quite a bit of water that came out of it...

My air cleaner is soaking wet and everything. I took sparkplugs out and one of em on each side of the motor was wet..

Is it hydrolocked? Im a little shaken up right now.

pull the pugs before you try to crank it over again. if you haven't already. that is the first and most important thing to do. the water trapped in the cyclinders will not compress so your rods bend instead.
pull the plugs and crank the engine over with a socket and see how much water comes out.

I pulled the plugs but it still wont crank. No milky oil either. I tried jumping it and it still wouldnt crank but il have to put the battery on the charger

smiliewhathesaid smilieIagree I hope you have not already bent some rods by trying to crank it over.

Get the water out by hand. Keep turning it with all the plugs out. I would even squirt some clean oil in each one and keep turning. Messy...I know, but....

Probably need to change the oil as well. Not sure about that part, but it can't hurt.

I saw a ford truck (early 70s 4X4) go totally under water at the lake here. They towed it out, drained all the fluids (oil, antifreeze, trans fluid, differential fluid, t-case fluid, etc.), got the water out of the engine, refilled everything, and drove it home.

I am not real sure how they got away with it, but I sat and watched them from the time it went under until they drove off in it.

If it won't turn over with all the plugs out then something probably got bent, either while you were trying to start it or when one of the cylinders filled up while it was running and the engine came to a very abrupt stop.

Probably. Sooo...

Lets talk about Connecting Rods...

I found a set of brand new ford lightning rods that the guy said have never been installed and already balanced. Will those work on my motor? Hopefully there is no damage to my cylinder walls... If not then im going to rehone, re ring, re bearing, new oil pump and pick up tube. Then a cam swap. Ugh this sucks....

I hate to even say this, but by the time you tear that whole thing apart and replace all those pieces, it might be cost-effective to look at a motor out of a wrecking yard or something.

I've said this once, and I'll say it again and then shut up- wheelin' with your daily driver is un-godly expensive.

hehe i got plans for it. Im not to bumbed about it, im upset enough to not eat anything durring dinner, but it all depends on what shape my block is in. Any deep scoring, cracks and whatever else, then its a boat anchor... If its ok then it gets a new hone, bearings, rods, rings, oil pump and pickup. Then maby a camshaft.

When I hydrolocked mine, it did the same thing. You got to pull all the plugs and then bang on the starter, its prob locked up. If mine ran with the bent ass rod that was in it yours should 2. I got my reman engine from ebay for 1275 shipped to my door. Fluteline was the company, spellin might not be right. Hope it works out for ya bud.

Hopefully the cylinder walls aint messed up or the crank aint bent. Thats the two things im really worried about.

I took the upper plenum and most the stuff of the front today and found this....

lmao yes sir i will be. Since your on the forum. If my block aint salvagable..... Which i think its not. Can you bore out a 351W with the SD system? Like if i find a lower mileage block and get it redone.

Oh yeah.. the bore doesn't make enough difference to affect the computer. I mean SD will tolerate cam changes and ported heads and stuff, so a few more cubes is nothin.

My suggestion is don't start buying anything until you know what is wrong, your block may be fine.

Man... Mike you really gotta cut that crap out. I've been worries about something like this happening.

Trista's dad (big rig mechanic) says to pull all the plugs and crank the engine by hand. Then maybe spray some penetrant inside. Don't waste too much time because you don't want the cylinders to rust. Good luck man :(

Cut what crap out? I like to use my truck once and a while, not just stare at it. Maby if i didnt have that talked up "460 Air tube" my motor would still be running.

If that 95 cant handle what i can throw at it then it aint the truck for me. After the motor is rebuilt or whatever i gotta do, im selling it and getting a 78 or 79 bronco. Now those will take some crap.

O BTW Valance number two....
