ZF5 sp. which truck to look for?

Been seeing a lot of good deals on the local craigslist for used (generations 8 & 9) F150's and 250's lately. I'm not so sure the ZF 5 sp. was in an F150, but what all trucks did they come in, and what years specifically? Most typical ads only say 5 speed, and they don't know which is which when it comes to M5R2 or ZF 5. (460 bell pattern)

So u need a 460 ZF5? ur in luck as the 460 was ONLY backed by the T-19 or ZF5. Came in 88-97 F-250/F-350s and Superdutys.

i have seen someone adapt a 460 ZF5 to work with a 7.3IDI. i have also heard of it being done in reverse. the bolt pattern doesnt match up totally but its close some folks make it work.

Thanks! I'm hoping to stuff one in my '78 F150 behind my 400. (I've read about the swap a few times) Unless a 5.4L and ZF5 combo comes up cheap, lol.

Cool. :)
Well, that takes care of that. ;)
Sure enough makes sense not to have a stock Mazda M5OD-R2 behind a 460! LOL :)

Over on Fordification a transmission repair shop owner swears by the Mazda...
after it's "fixed". Personally, leave me out of it. ;)

The ZF -could be- in an F150 or a Bronco tho.
That's what the Ford '91 Truck Spec book sez.
...just not likely to be, is all. ;)
Was it offered as a special-order option, or what?

Go figure, I have a 2wd unit... Typically 250 and 350 trucks have the ZF.

Alivin, i have seen that as well (ZF in the F-150). Not sure what is up with that but it was only around for a year or two.

What "fixes" does this lad do to the M5OD?

I don't know off hand, he's over on Fordification (Dustin, "average 250").
It might be more that he swaps 'em out more often and so sees it from
a different perspective, more than anything? ;)

The Bronco I drove for ~10 minutes had a Mazda M5OD-R2 and it was cool
and all but shifting into 1st was needed because I tried 2nd and it was way
too high. ...and IMO 1st was too low too. :/ But that's what Dustin likes
about it tho, it's a close ratio transmission and he uses his to haul vehicles
with it. LOL :)

T18 ========== 6.32 3.09 1.69 1.00 ===. r7.44
ZF M5OD-HD ===. 5.72 2.94 1.61 1.00 0.76 r5.72
Mazda M5OD-R2 = 3.91 2.24 1.49 1.00 0.80 r3.39
NP435 ========. 6.69 3.34 1.74 1.00 ===. r8.26 <---check out reverse! :)
...and I always thought my T18's reverse was too slow. LOL :)

Simple as this

1987-97 F250, F250HD, F350, FSuperduty if they have a 5 speed and a 351 or 460 it is a ZF. I got mine from a 1993 F250HD that had a 351
