Finally heard back from the engine shop that rebuilt the motor....they put "racing" in the ad because the shop that rebuilt it was a racing engine shop. But it is a 400 and was bored and stroked, new cam. The transfer case and transmission was rebuilt at the same time and all have less than 3000 miles on them which was done about 2 years ago.

81 looks like the better route Mark....which means I'll be too far west of you, eh?

I would have thought you would take 95. A lot less scenic than 81 but its all mostly flat land and much easier on the gas. 95 is still 2.5 hours west of me. I'm about as far east as you can get, south of Maryland. And Randy's as far west as you can get in Maryland.

I would have liked to see that truck in person.:(

Ken, looks okay, if it is what you expected. He said new gas tanks.....I'm not seeing that, unless they were coated. There are some dents in the rear tank.

Looks like the shroud on the midship tank has been cut and pasted to get rid of the usual rust-through on the shroud.

Also, I wasn't aware that replacement tanks were available for the midship tank.

After looking closer, it looks like the rear tank has been coated?

Ken , have you taken into consideration the date that your going to be driving ? July 4TH

Yeah.....I had to weigh that with losing some time at work (which would be far more costly smiliecrybaby . The route is definitely not set in stone....from studying the maps, it looks like less drama going around all the major cities on 81 vs 95......going to seek some advice from our FTF truck drivers.

4th weekend worked out perfect for me.....our office is closed on the 4th, my manager will only come in on Friday for a few hours, then close and I'll be: smiliepeelout

Thanks Doug....I've always given our necessary items for dent #2 the past couple of years on here (AC, auto, 4wd, frame off is possible, lift, similar in nature to the 77 like single cab) and this one seems to hit most of them for sure.....not to mention getting the blessing of you fellas. I'm pretty excited....I think it will be a good compliment to the 77.

I'll be driving by pretty close to Randy on 81.

I'm not a truck driver, but I've run 81 down into Tennessee, and 95 as far as DC.

Given the choice, I'd take 81 in half a heartbeat. 81 is hilly and with heavy truck traffic, but 95 is congested with aggressive urban drivers and tolls.

(It's only happened once out of four or five times, but I did once spend three hours in sight of the GW bridge- at an off-peak day/time. Fortunately I didn't have to pee until the last hour.)

Ian, thanks......it's the reason I was thinking of taking 81...I'd skip Phili, DC, and NY! I think those cities on or around the 4th will be pretty crazy.

81 is the way to go. I avoid 95 to congested and a bunch of backup way to often. I always make better time on 81.
Looks like I'll be meeting up with you around the hagerstown/ berkly springs area. That's only 1 1/2 hours away from me. I'll call and set up a time and place to meet up with you.

Engine stroked to what?

Is it possible to stroke a 400 engine? It's already at 4.00 inches. I was going to ask that question, but I'm not that engine savvy.

Barnett High Performance does some pretty wild strokers for the 400...upwards of a 496. I've only ever e-known one guy to run it, and he says don't expect to get more than 2-3 seasons of racing out of it. So it doesn't sound like a very streetable engine. But I would like to try their 466 stroker kit.

Ben, what does that mean, not very streetable? Meaning, it was built for racing/mudding only? And not as a DD or just tooling around town?

I'm working on getting the stroking details....the current owner has been speaking to the PO owner from him on the details and according to him this morning, it wasn't built for racing or mudding, but for daily street use for car shows and such.....kinda how I've been running my 77.
