Transmission kit advice.

Do we have any sponsors that sell Thunderbird transmission kits? (preferably motorcraft) I couldn't seem to find anything on Autoanything. [confused]

Vince, what kind of tranny fluid do you recommend I use for my 96' Thunderbird 281 V8 with auto transmission, and do you know how many qts. I'll be needing?
Thanx ahead of time! :D

I may end up posting another photo "how to" essay when doing this. YelloThumbUp

I believe regular mercon fluid will be fine. It should say on your dipstick. If I remember right, put in 11 quarts and check after starting. Its 11-13 quarts.

I used to buy all my transmission rebuild parts at a place in springfield. They stock everything...everything.

Or did you not mean rebuild kit?

My mistake for not specifying, this is just for a regular filter/fluid change. I can't afford a new tranny at the moment, so I figure I should take care of the one I have YelloThumbUp

My camera battery died about 2 minuets into starting the filter change, sorry guys, no walkthrough

No problem. Did it help your trans any?

Yes'r, seems to have helped a bit. Only ran me $40 for the filter, gasket sealer, (the gasket itself was re-usable) and 6 qts of tranny fluid... much better than $850 for a new transmission :wavey:

You didn't drain the converter?

When I did the filter change, the fluid that came out actually looked/smelled pretty clean (which I thought was odd because the filter looked terrible), so I didn't mess with the converter. The filter was definitely due for a change though, I wish I could have gotten a picture.... it looked like a stale Rice crispy treat painted black. :suspicious: The new one looked like a soft yellow sponge.
