Thinking about switching to carb..

Now that's what I'm talkin' bout. I seen the pics already, though. How much re-wiring did you have to do?

The wiring was easy. A key on hot wire to the dizzy and one to the electric choke. I used the factory wiring for the alternator and a/c clutch. I did take a bit of time to take out the wiring I wasn't using, just to clean up the engine bay a little.

Hey Tony did you build that motor and drop it in yourself or pay someone to do?

I had a local machine shop build the shortblock. I put on the heads and accessories and dropped it in.

I re jetted it and changed the accelerator pump cam when I installed it. Never had to make a change since. The only time you would need to make a change is if you moved to a drasticly different altitude.

What kind of "efi" are you talking about? As in, SD or MAS? While it's true that they both adjust for you, but the SD is VERY limited to what it will adjust to. MAS has it's limits to, but by comparison it is very flexable. Virus has SD and Ford's SD is about as umcompromising as it gets....hence the desire to change. So, saying "It registers it and adjusts for it" is really a dubious claim since SD wont adjust to much of anything without being reprogrammed.

Engine control module or management. Power Train Management (or module)
getting the carbd engine to work with the computer controlled tranny.
just remmber hes got a 5 speed. WOOPS

Wouldn't a change in cam, displacement, volumetric efficiency etc. also call for a re-jet??

Yes it would Eco. I should have clarified. Once you have your angine the way you want it, no more modifications, you shouldn't need to re jet. Thanks for mentioning that.

No worries, I'm not that stupid. Lol. I have a fair idea of what's involved, I'm just debating whether it'd worth the trouble. In a way it seems like it would be, alot less to deal with and alot less to trouble shoot. One of the main reasons I love older vehicles.. alot simpler.

Oh, btw.. Tony, do you run a vacuum secondary carb or a mechanical?

And second why didnt i go to the highschool that took us to the carribean? THATS BS. they dont even have a senior trip here. They got an all nighter, which is no alcohol, no smoking, no screwing. Etc retarded. My dads senior thing (same hs i went to) was, They rented a farmers field, big bon fire in the middle supplied alcohol, parents patrolled the edge of the acre lot, keys were forfitted.
