As for the VSS, my trick only works if you have a transfer case that still has the hole for the speedo cable. You can use a vss from an early 90's crown vic. It will go right in the hole where the speedo cable would.

Wasn't it about 78 or 79 full size broncos that had the D44 and a 9"? If those are the right years...the explorer guys grab them and do a full width swap under their later explorer (off road beasts!).

just puttin in my 2 cents here, I've beat my locked 8.8 for a while now and it's doin good so far.....

They are pretty tough and the jeep guys seem to love the explorer ones (about the right width I guess), but they have to weld the axle tubes to the pumpkin housing (whatever it is called) better than the factory plug welds.

Somehow...they seem to twist the axle at that point. Torque? I really don't know how they managed to do it.

Just seen a lot of pics of twisted ones on another forum I used to frequent (jeep guys hung out there too).
