Have you pulled the plugs to see what they look like.

smilieIagreesmiliewhathesaid

Pull the plugs and get us some pics of them.

I used to have a bookmark of what plugs look like when under certain conditions (right, rich, lean, ect) maybe somebody else has a link to it..

on the number 8 plug do you have spark to it.
What are the compression numbers for #8 is the valves seating all they
could be as simple as a bad plug or wires.
It is running rich from the looks of the plugs but this could be left over from tuning in the carb and just haven't burnt off yet

Remember, black smoke means "Incomplete Combustion" so your carburetor could be set correctly but you are not getting spark, to little spark or spark at the wrong time. More than likely since it is only on one side of the engine, I suspect you are not getting sufficient spark to some of the cylinders. Check all your plug wires, distributor for damage, and spark plug gap. The pictures all show oil following on the plugs which is not uncommon on a new engine. It appears the rings have not fully seated yet. How many miles on the engine?

Also check all the things Smokey mentioned.

What colors the smoke?
If its black then thats unburned fuel. Blue is oil unless your runnin synthetic then itll be white or invisible. White is coolant.

I too have had problems with plat plugs put into non-plat ignition systems not working out so well... took a barely firing car to a perfectly starting car just by ditching the plats...
