Duncan, do you know if I have to pull the whole dam column to take a peek at the upper end of the housing?

I'm interested in this thread too. I have yet to replace the column shifter indicator light as well. I can barely see the light on mine too and just haven't replaced it with LED.

The Sounds to me like the clear plexi-glass runner from the light mount to the indicator has heat fatigued and clouded up

You can clean the area where the indicator is by simply removing the cover

To get the rest of it you have to completely tear down the column and remove is from its mounting

I can take a pic of one disassemblied if need be

Take a look for yourself once you pull the gear indicator cover off.

The whole column still has to be completely taken apart

Ordered some white LEDS to insert into the shift indicator at the suggestion of a helpful fellow FTF'er. :D Something I noticed with the other LEDS is that they are a tad bit longer then the 1445 bulb, and thus, they do not fit all the way into the bulb tunnel. I'm wondering if that would make a difference, since the dispersion of the LEDS I ordered were only 32 and 90 deg? This time I ordered some SMD's.

For now, I put the 1445 bulb back in place, and I do have light, but it is VERY dim.

Got the SMD's today. They are too big in diameter to fit inside the tunnel for the bulb. So, will try one more time with a regular LED with white light. I don't really want to disassemble the steering column for one little bulb.

Doug, the beam angle is based on the beam out of the top of the lamp...so 90 deg would be 45 deg from vertical each way.
I haven't had a chance to remove the metal housing out of my column yet to see what can be seen :D
I will get to it this weekend now that the pre Christmas mayhem is finished at work.
