Mike ain't the only one with trans problems...

Well, next thing I would do is scan for tranny codes.

By disabling the PCM's control of the TC could have caused a problem. Try
resetting the PCM (disconnect the negative battery cable, and touch it to the positive battery terminal for a sec.), leave your switch so the PCM controls the TC, and see what happens.

Your welcome Chris!!!!

my daddy always told me the more you modify a vehicle the more problems you are going to have. But what fun is there in that? LOL

I thought my speedo was accurate until i past one of those "your speed is" contraptions

see i have the opposite problem wheni first get in the truck for the day it always falls out of gear leaving the doorms.

Your Daddy is a wise man, and gives great advice!!!!!

I'm amazed of how people can fall for these after market performance mod product companies lies!!!! Do people really believe that vehicle manufacturers today don't know what they are doing? With CAFE requirements vehicle manufacturers will do everything they can to make their vehicles as efficient as possible! Companies like K&N would like you to believe that the OEM filters and intakes are restrictive. It's not going to happen!!

The only way to get a significant engine performance increase is to:

1) Increase displacement
2) Go to forced induction
3) Change camshaft parameters (but this will only help low RPM or high RPM range without VVT)

But these changes will cost big $$$, and will not address reliability from the added stress on the engine and rest of the drivetrain. It also won't address the instability of the vehicle at the higher speeds. I have often posted that the speed limiters built into the PCMs are for stupid people's protection.

So, bottom line, if you want to go fast, buy a vehicle that is designed and built to go fast, it will be must safer, and far more reliabile!! Don't throw your money away on useless stuff like K&N filters and intakes, e-fans, and UDPs!!

Just my $0.02!!!!!!

Lol, don't go tootin' your horn too much Bob -- it was already part of my gameplan.

It obviously wasn't in your gameplan when you installed that switch in the
TC lockup circuit, which is the reason for the tranny code, and shifting problem!!!!!

Yessir it was. I'll even quote the post that I read from a guy warning about this issue before I installed my switch:

Heyyyyyyyyyy everyone wait a few here. I did this with my truck a while back. Let me explain a few things....

First off... yes its possible. I did this to mine. I've got a 3 position rocker. Up position is locked up, middle is normal computer control, and the bottom is unlocked completely.

But there's a problem with doing this. If your computer tells the torque converter to lockup at a certain speed.... and doesn't notice an RPM drop in about 3 cycles... it will throw the transmission into "limp mode" and cause hard shifts. It will go away after about 50 or 60 miles, as long as it doesn't notice any more errors. Just be cautious when doing this. I've heard from a few people that allowing the torque converter to slip for longer than normal will cause the fluid to heat up and eventually burn up the converter, but I question that rumor because of the simple fact that any Dodge or Chevy tranny, or even newer 4R70W equipped Fords, don't have the TC lockup until after it is in Overdrive. So you're on your own here!

So yes Bob -- it WAS in my gameplan.

Don't think so Chris, or you wouldn't have asked this in your first post of this
thread:

"What causes extremely hard shifts like this? I have a feeling I might be in for a new trans soon..."

And you started this thread AFTER intalling the switch!!!!!

Bob I'd like not to argue with you. Fact of the matter is -- I forgot about Chad's post from the other site until I went pulled the TCC lockup error code and that reminded me of what he said (seeing as I'm showing the exact same symptoms).

No I remember a guy on the other site mentioning something about this... About how if the computer did sense the TCC locking with a certain amount of time after it was supposed to, it would shift hard until you reset the computer. Don't know why I didn't think of it before...
Brain fart. I hadn't read Chad's post in a while so I forgot about it until I pulled the code. If that makes me stupid then I apologize.

Let's please put this to rest Bob. Clearly you don't like the TCC switch mod --- I do. That's all that matters.

Thanks for the apology and admitting you were wrong! You need to modify your "Tech Thread" on the TC switch to warn people of the problems it causes!

chris, I had a hard shift issue. The wire harness on my nuetral safety switch (it's not actually called that in these years of trucks, but the real name escapes me now).

I took out that wireharness & the seal was sorta shot. Moisture got in there. It had a good deal of corrosion. I cleaned it off and shot it full of dialectric grease. Problem solved...
