measuring valve guide wear

When using a ball gauge to measure wear on valve guides, what type of wear would you expect? 1) more at the bottom 2) more at the top 3) equal wear all the way down 4) wear top and bottom, less in the center

Wear at top and bottom and less in the middle.

I'm going with number one. Assuming the lash had been properly maintained, the rocker arm holds the pushrod fairly steady at the top, albeit somewhat, and the guide would get a more conical wear; Narrower at the top, broader at the bottom.

OOPS! The movement of the rocker arm will cause the valve stem to "rock" back and forth, causing wear at the top and bottom of the guide. Overhead cam engines with valve followers lessen this type of wear.
