Idler pulley

Anyone familiar with the idler pulley from our trucks that are A/C equipped?
Looking in my shop manual it doesn't make any reference to replacing the bearing, which was my plan. Now the new plan is replacement as I bent the crap outta the pulley. I have been unable to locate a NOS one but have a line on a used one. Anybody know if these things do come apart?

Most generally, the idler pulley and bearing have a bolt through the center. You replace the whole thing in one unit.

I was figuring that was the case...this one doesn't appear to have a bolt, but a shaft with 2 spots staked into the bracket...thanks for the reply!

I pressed the bearing out of mine and replaced it. But its not the factory air , its the under dash unit. The bearing was held in by 3 little raised bumps on the pully.

Got a picture of the pulley/bracket?

Now that I have pooched my pulley, I am going to see what it takes to get it apart.

2nd picture up from the bottom is the one...now how does it come apart?..I have the shop manuals (Ford) and it doesn't say a hell of a lot.

They're not supposed to come apart. See the three (stamp) marks . They press the bearing in place and keep it from coming out. Grind the metal away to allow the bearing to pass.

That is what I was thinking...thanks for the confirmation!

Only idler/adjuster pulleys I haven't been able to replace the bearings
in are the molded plastic ones where it looks like the factory pressure
injected the whole thing out of plastic with the bearing already held
inside the mold. The bearing is just plain ol' captive in there. :(

The belt tension adjust-pulley my '75 has a 6203 bearing inside it and
chances are that's what all of them will have in 'em. :)

...But we're talking Ford here! LOL :)

So my honest-to-goodness "idler pulley" has a water pump bearing in
it which is a sealed double row bearing with a built-in 5/8" shaft...
http://www.panix.com/~alvinj/file12/idler.jpg
...there's the 5/8" shaft poking out at the far left of the picture.

Bearings:
Water pump bearing for the idler is a number 885158 (or so!). :)
30mm=diameter 38.89mm=wide 15.918mm=shaft It needs about
a 1" stub on one side to insert into the cast-iron mount/frame.

A/C clutch/pulley bearing is 5106, same size my '91 Bronco uses.
30x 55x 23mm

Anything else you take apart, chances are it'll have a 6203 in it
somewhere since it's the most common ball bearing in the world. :)
17x 35x 12mm

The manual transmission pilot bearing for an FE or FT is a 6303.
17x 47x 14mm

It helps to be a little bit of an old-style mechanic to even want to
mess with stuff like that let alone git it done right. ;)
