So i figured it up. If my numbers are correct. Since it has been two weeks since i left. It may be wrong. But its looking like 9-11 mpg for 840 miles.

Im going back in 3 months.

So im thinking.
New plugs
wires
coil
air filter
fuel filter

Other than that im lost.

You packin' a 5.8L? 9-11 isn't TERRIBLE for that engine but it could be better... I get 12.5 with my 33" tires and 4.10 gears.

How old are all those components that you mentioned? If they've got some age on them then they could very well increase you mileage a good bit. Might also wanna dump some seafoam in the tank and through the brake booster line ;)

I think he's got a 5.0 => and a lead foot. :wavey: On my truck (a 4X4) there was a significant difference in mileage between 65 and 75. 80 was about the outer limit of what the truck felt comfortable doing (the famous wandering front end). I remember seeing a pic of his speedo at about 80- it takes a lot of energy to move that brick through the wind at that speed.

You're absolutely right Ernie, I forgot that he drives so fast.

Anthony, that speed is going to be a BIGGGG factor in your mileage. Tone it back a bit if you're concerned about gas.

As for the other stuff mentioned before, it still applies if you want to keep your engine healthy and keep it churning out as many MPGs as possible.

Something people forget about in trucks- wind resistance takes a huge toll on fuel mileage. Not true in a car- the Grand Marquis is very comfy at 80-85, and will still knock down mileage in the high 20's. Keep it at 65-70, and 30 is within reach.

On the KR, with the trip-computer thingie, it was amazing to watch the difference in mileage between 65 (19ish) and 80 (13ish... barely). Press for 90, and you're staring 10-11 in the face. On a long trip, that get's expensive in a hurry.

Check the air in the tires too. That would help. Pretend there is an egg under the accelerator when you take off from a stop (stay under 2,000 RPM). Don't kick it down to pass unless absolutely necessary. Use the cruise (at a lower speed) when you can. If you have cruise.....

Just for comparison purposes... I SELDOM take my truck about 70 mph... When cruising on the highway I cruise at 65mph and if the traffic is moving quickly I'll push it a little closer to 70mph just to keep people happy. My point is, you CAN drive at 65. It seems slow at first but just set your cruise there and it'll start to seem fast enough after a while ;)

i always keep it right at 65 (interstate speed limit is 70). i'm sure i make a few people mad, but 65 isn't horrible. it makes a 3 hour trip take another few minutes, but it's not the end of the world. plus, it's nice not to have to watch about passing people, then getting over etc - try it sometime.

for me its not so much the speed as much as the rpms. i try to limit myself to 2,000rpms (your engine might be different). that number keeps me from racing away from a stoplight, accelerating hard, and keeps me steady on the highway

Why restrict speed? you can set your cruise at 75 and get better mileage then if it was off. Cruise helps cause its constant.

i can go 80-90 at 1900rpm easily

thats fine but if you set your cruise at 65 or 70 you'd be a lot better off

how so? IS95 has a speed limit of 65 but early mornings trafic is moving 90+, no lie

if i can go 65 or 70 at 1900rpm versus 80-90 at 1900rpms. theres no difference

used to be that my truck got good gas mileage, near 20mpg at 80 mph.

I just sat the cruise and chilled out all the way up here.

Fuel filter i doubt thats ever been changed. i actually have one just dont have the line spreader.

Air filter its overdue.

Plugs. I put some on at 95k im nearing 120k right now. im sure there needed As well as plug wires.

coil is probably what came with it.

im running 32psi in the front and 37 in the rear.

ima buy some new coils for the front since i got a real bad weak spring. It becomes more noticable as time goes on. Heck the other day i thought i had a flat tire just by the way the thing was leaning

It's only 90+ in the hammer lane. You don't have to be over there. And it's not just RPM. More fuel is required to turn your engine at the same RPM depending on load, and higher speed creates greater wind drag, which is a greater load.

I guess he has 2.73 gears and at 65 he's in 4th gear, but doesn't shift into overdrive until 80 or 90.

I know you won't believe it Nextras, but wind resistance is a HUGE factor in these trucks.

Hahaha. With my 5.13 gears, I'm turning 3200rpm at 70. C-6. No overdrive.

With my 205/70-14 tires and 4:10s, I'm not far off that with overdrive, Tony- 'bout 3000 by my math. No tach.

Bet mine sucks a lot less gas to do it, though...
