Hopefully!!...there will be pics posted!

Possibly a metallic silver type color would accent the engine well. Have you decided on a color for the oil pan/accessory brackets/etc? If the engine compartment matched that color I think it could look very nice.

That's the problem I've got...I have zero imagination for colors and stuff like that...technical drawing...no problem!...stuff requiring imagination...huge problem..hehehe.

haha. Alright, how about since you're going with black on the frame and blue on the body, keep the block blue and go with black accents on the brackets of the motor, then a nice gloss black on the inner fenders.

Hmm...that sounds like a good idea....thanks!

IMO, Gloss Black under the hood looks awful.

Semi-gloss black Duron paint looks nicer and lasts longer.

Same goes for the frame.. SEMI-Gloss Black Powder coat is great.

I prefer semi-gloss under the hood too. Right now, my inner fenders are 'silver' and firewall is the same color as the rest of the rig.

Gloss Black looks Tacky.

Look at the 40's Chevy and Ford Pu's for an idea.

Plus if you brush gloss black the Pigments in it scuff and look like hell.

Paint on a vehicle is like artwork... Things need to compliment each other and combine to make it a masterpiece.

Just to note to Users: the past LMC catalogues are good reference for paint schemes.Maybe I should scan and post some of the older ones for people to see. Especially the silver/black 78/79 styleside

The only I have kept the striping on my truck is because of that was original. Now since there are so many things that are Not original on it, The stripes may be gone next paint job.

Thanks guys for your thoughts...after Paul mentioned the gloss last night, I got to thinking the same thing about it being maybe too bright...I thought back to other vehicles I've seen.
I don't want brushstrokes at all...whatever color scheme I do will be powder coated on....according to the powdwercoaters, metallics can be done.

Ask the pwder coaters to see samples. Seams to me powder coat gloss is not as glossy as paint gloss

I'm gonna go down to a couple of places and check things out...that will get my head spinning I'm sure..:rolling laugh:

Somebody liked silicone...intake, oil pan and torque converter plug was lathered in it.

Not a lot of sludge anywhere:

Heads and valves were reasonable for 125000 miles:

Not too much crap on the pistons...sorry for the focus:

Timing gears were fine...nothing missing or weird...chain was a little sloppy.

Pretty much stripped down:

The rod bearings were all in good shape..one had a very slight groove in it

Awesome progress Duncan...you really got on it. Still looked to be a pretty good engine. Thanks for the update.

Thanks Ben...the engine ran pretty good before...if it sat for a few weeks between running a slight puff of blue would come out on start up...I was really pleasantly surprised by the condition it was in....I can't wait to see what it will be like going from the 160hp stocker to 500+...hehehe!

I think you'll basically crap yourself...not due to your age but because it'll scare you...haha. I know going from the double digit hp my 351M had to a good stock 400 was unbelievable...and it's even more incredible going to 340ish hp in Red...so my shorts are getting tighter just thinking of 500+hp in a dent.

I have also decided to go with Pro-Systems for the carb...the 830-840 mech. secondary double pumper.
