Distributor Adaptor

Hey guys...can any one tell me where in the hell I can get the distributor adaptor from? You know the 'body shroud' that goes between the cap and the actual electronics of the dizzy. Is there a different name than 'distributor adaptor'? None of the local parts stores seem to know what I'm talking about. Mine is loose and wobbles and I really don't think it should do that. So if someone can give me an actual name of what it's called or a part number or a store that has them, I'd appreciate it.

All it does is make it so you can run the bigger distrbutor cap with the male ends instead of the smaller cap with female ends. Id just pull it off and take it in to em or pop the hood and show em where it goes.

That shows the different ones. That's as much help as I can be. Just some sort of basic computer, the first version. Probably high tech for 1978 :D

Autozone lists it as a distributor cap adapter, part #F958 supposedly in stock generally.

EEC, the later models with injection typically, but not always. If it had the TFI module, it was EEC. Durasparks are not considered EEC.

Interesting read, wasn't sure if the adapter was different through them or not, surprised a bit to see one that early...

ON EEC equipped vehicles the I/M is located beside and is part of the distributor

DSII and DS III have a IM mounted on the fender.

Because they are a bunch of computer using *******s. Not a single one of those parts store jockeys knows anything anymore. When I sold parts we had to actually use a book to look stuff up.

Wanna know what is sad? I found it by simply looking up the distributor cap, it is listed as a related part on Znet, as well as the first thing on the list on the website... Of course, I was counting on that to help find it.

Thanks for the info Dennis.

No doubt. I went back to O'Reilly's with the old adapter, asked the kid for a replacement. He asked what it went to. I told him between the cap and the electronics of the adapter. He asked what it was called...I said a distributor cap adapter. Then he went through all the is it 4x4 or 4x2...5.8W, M, or 6.6...etc. Finally, he called one of the 'old' guys over and it was smooth sailing from there. Had the part in my hand in about 30 seconds.

And that is the main reason I try not to buy parts from part stores anymore, typically I try to plan for a couple days shipping, but this adapter was wobbling around so bad it was causing a miss...so I figured something should be done.

Yea, they let the wet behind the ears get you the parts now.....the NAPA by me either knows where the part is by heart (the Ford guru in the anyways) or they look it up in a book....Computer, what's that?

Computers are nice for the speed, but they are only as good as the person doing the data entry... The difference is knowing when the computer is wrong and double check with the book... A gripe I have with AZ is the VSS on any Ford truck newer than 92... they show a transmission sensor, not the one in the rear axle. They only call it the ABS sensor...

When I am there, if one of the guys isn't sure, they come to me. I get all the Ford truck questions... I even put in for a correction, but apparent DE hasn't seen fit to correct it... Had this happen more than once, the other guys don't remember that they have it cataloged that way. What's worse is the Wells book is also wrong...

I feel your guys pain with the uninformed parts store guys. Last trip I made I was looking for the screw in fuel filter for my 2100 carb. None of them could find it in the computer..... Ended up buying it online from Summit.
