C6 removal

Well my jack has up to about 25" of lift and I measured to height from ground to tranny pan it's gonna be damn near perfect

You want to have a little bit more lift to get it up off the crossmember a bit...

True, I am more used to the ones that sit on top of the frame... you have to get some lift to get the trans mount loose, then the cross comes out. Since yours is below the frame, you can get away with that more.

UPDATE (finally)

Sorry for my absence guys. Been busy with school again and work ramped up. Good news is I only have 5 more classes to go - then I R edumacated. Not to mention I'm looking for another job...This company's sub-par pay just won't cut it anymore. I have a 2nd interview in 30 minutes actually :)

So the cops tagged my truck to be "donated to the nearest impound lot of their choosing" a couple weeks ago. I basically had to bolt a lot of crap back on to get her started, then have my buddy and his tow truck come by and help me get it to the driveway in the back. This sucked because the driveway is super narrow, in a narrow alleyway, and a crappy incline. Basically, we had to lower the flatbed down, let off the brakes and coast as far up the driveway as possible then he used his extendable boom to push up against the rear tires enough to get the rear-end outta the alley. I then couldn't work on it as it was half in the grass and half on concrete - the tranny jack would've tipped over on its side on uneven ground. Ugh, long story short, I called a local transmission shop to come haul her away to let them do it. The financial damage isn't going to be as bad as say...my 2005's tranny would run. I did hope to remove the tranny myself and save some money on labor but eh...

Anyway, the tranny guy just called and says the fluid pump is out for sure. They're also going to replace the torque converter, servo, and install a rebuild kit (written estimate is on its way but his verbal was anywhere from $650-850. He said he is going to stick to that range). He says the TC is a hi-stall version and asked if I wanted to stay with that or install a lower-stall TC. From the little I know about these, is that a higher stall TC would serve me better in a mud hole as it would deliver more torque at higher RPM, but I could be delusional. Unfortunately, I do not know my peak RPM range.

Any help with this choice would be most helpful. He said there would be no cost difference if I went either way.

Most Ford engines have high torque specs at low RPM

GM engines are short stroke Higher Torque specs at Higher Rpm.

The guy must be a Chevy nerd.

You generally want your tq converter to come on just before peak tq, so sat your peak was at 2500, a 2200iissshhh stall would work well. While stoke and bore do play a part in power bands, the cam/head/intake selection play a much bigger role. It really depends on what has been done to your engine to make an educated choice that will work well with your motor. If you have no idea and were happy with the way it was performing before, keep it the same.

No idea if he is or not. As far as I can tell his shop does work on many different makes and models.

So yeah no idea what's been done to the motor. I just know that when I took it on the trail and went mudding in it, it never got stuck and performed like a champ

If it was rebuilt, I would hope they would do the rear main seal... one of the easier parts to replace.

K well got her back. The rear main wasn't done cause the mechanic said it wasn't leaking... plus it's a 2 piece and they didn't wanna touch it (I'm thinking that's the real reason).

Anyway, got her home and tried to back her up the driveway in the back of the house so I could wash her and it wouldn't go up the incline. Thought it wasn't all the way in gear so I fiddled with the shifter to make sure it was in reverse and gave it some gas - engine revved up and the truck moved just slightly, started to shudder as I gave it more gas, then it was all engine rev and no movement. On level ground, it will move but I have to give it too much gas. Band adjustment?

I called the guy immediately and expressed my sincere dismay. Said he "would take care of it" and apologized. Will probably take it back up there on Sat. I do have a 12 month/12,000 mi warranty provided I take it in after 150 miles/15 days for a checkup.

^^^Dunno what it is, but I've never had any luck with transmission guys. I've never gotten a transmission back that I didn't have to bring back within a week.

I had a C6 rebuilt before this truck and I didn't have any problems with it ever... that was at AAMCO too. You'd think these smaller shop guys would pay more attention to detail.

I think it's more or less comfort level with each transmission. With how many transmissions are out there, you can't expect to be an expert on every one...but dang, the C6 should be the easiest one to pass through the shop.

I think most of these shops don't get enough experience working on the "easy" stuff so they get rusty on them... then again, what do I know lol I should've been able to tackle the job myself
