78 bronco

Have to know where to look. I check in Lewiston first, lots of retired folks there. Then I check Missoula.

I've actually found quite a few old people cars in Missoula. Saw a 1992 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 w/ diesel for sale there last year. Nice truck. Garage kept w/ only 30,000 miles.

About 5 miles from where I sit is a 1996 F-350 XLT single cab, 4x4, Powerstroke truck. It has less than 15K on it. Farmer bought it the year he turned the farm over to his son. He and his wife use it to drive to church in the winter time when it's snowing. He's about 85 and I'm like a vulture waiting for the estate sale. Truck is kept in the garage year round and is so minty fresh it hurts to look at it.
Tyler looking for something local. My Bronco was purchased by a retired gentleman, garaged, and barely winter driven. I wouldn't buy something that old with less than 50,000 miles. Lets just say this though my Bronco wasn't exactly cheap for an 88.

That's why I said you have to know where to look. I gave examples from my area. Tyler needs to learn about his areas demographics so he can find the best deal.

Sheesh, it's like talking to a bunch of kids or something!

Trust me, we've looked and this Bronco is one of the best deals out there pans out it would be a great deal. I'm willing to bet he could part it out for more than he would be paying for it.

Yep, I'm looking local.. I don't feel like driving 2 hours to go LOOK at a vehicle.. not knowing it's condition.

and your Bronco wasn't cheap, but you get what you pay for...

yeah. cause the body is solid and it has family history so he really should get it. plus he wants it. hell he could sell the body and suspension for more than that because the body is so solid and it has the solid front axle and the 78/79 broncos are so rare.

Yeah, the door is rusted all the way through in the corner, and the bottom of the tailgate is a little rusty, but thats about it.

Check with contractors. We're always turning over trucks, cheap.

Hell I gave away the 76 F-250 4x4 and the 78 F-350. Put em on the side of the highway with a big "FREE" sign in the wndow.

Check with any business that's using trucks. Especially equipment rental yards. I've picked up some bargains there. Bought a 92 F-250 from a rental yard as a plow truck. Paid $1000 for it. 5.8, 4x4, auto. Yeah it was 3/4 shot, still got 2 good seasons out of it then sold it for $1700. Course I put about $800 in it.

so now your saying get an older truck? when just a few minutes ago you was hell bent against it? lots of times trucks that have been in construction and ect. they are beat up worse than the bronco is and would be.

A free, running, 4x4 truck wouldn't last long around here... heck, I'd even snatch it up. Offroading is pretty big around here.

Exactly what I was thinking...

If he really wants an older truck I might as well be a nice guy and tell him where to find em. It's his choice, and I'll tell him what I know regardless of what he decides.

Condition of the truck depends on the contractor. Most of us take good care of our rigs. At least the drivetrain. Yeah it might be beat up and dented. So long as it rolls to the jobsite, is safe to drive, and doesn't leave oil stains in the clients driveway. Having a crew sitting on the side of a highway waiting for a wrecker costs us money, a lot of money. It's burning profit.

So for the most part contractors are good about following PMS and getting stuff fixed.

It does depend on the contractor though. You have to use the senses God gave you and judge the situation with the information presented. Some guys will take a perfectly good truck, run it into the ground, and throw it away.

My moms side of the family owns a "transportation and infrastructure oriented electrical contractor" and when i was car shopping what they had for sale which were generally 05+ Superdutys had too many miles and were too beat up for me to be interested.

true. but like Tyler said. Off Roading is HUGE!!! around here. so most of those trucks are non existant cause they are already snatched up. the only reason hes got a shot at this bronco is cause it aint technically for sale. if it was it would be gone like in a instant.

Sort of like how I can't find a 2 wheel drive short wide to save my life?

Up here you can't hardly find a 2 wheel drive truck. It's almost all 4x4. That's why they're cheap. There's a million of them.

That's the exact opposite problem I had when looking for a truck. You should start looking down a bit more south, the 2WDs don't get rusted as much down here either and there a dime a dozen.

There's a 75 F-250 4x4 for sale at the feedlot for $1200. Nice shape. Straight, runs good, doesn't leak or drip.

Find me a comparable 80 to 86 F-150 short wide two wheel drive and I'll trade you. We can use U-Ship to get cheap shipping rates.

Must be a north Idaho thing.

I want to make a muscle truck. Something low and mean on 15 inch wheels. Lots of power. An 80 to 86 regular cab short wide would be perfect.

All I have found thus far is 4x4's.
