If anybody disgraces a ford truck and puts in a durachoke into a ford, they should be kicked in the nuts by a pro- punter. Then have there eyes and ears filled with bleach.
I would drive that 8 days a week. That would be a fantastic truck! That Duramax is a great motor.

We run a yard care- 7 trucks with trailers. Had a 2002 D max and a 2005 D max in 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. THEY WERE BOTH PUT ON AUCTION IN 2007!
We renamed them FIXAMAX with all the injector, wiring, pcm and emission system problems we had. Never again will I spend money on DMax again except for boat anchor on our 26' boat.
Cummins is a great motor and not to bad of a swap for the 12v ones. You can get pretty good power from them, but with a 3 speed C-6 you may wish for more gears when towing due to the low red line. And if you turn the pump for max power the mpg goes down down down, at which point...
You can build the 460 for great power(400-425hp) and get 10 mpg easy and probably get all the bolt in parts cheaper than doing the Cummings or...
Sell both and use the money to build your 351 into a 393 with better mpg than the 460 with an easy 375 hp or so at the flywheel plus everything bolts right in. At the end of the day, it's your call, any or all will work.

Yup Isuzu dose make make a good Diesel engine, Navstar does not...
Back in the "day" Detroit had some great engines, now the only real diesel in a truck is a Cummins
But if your talking big rigs they all suck, EPA has pretty much ****ed the Diesel engine.
not to mention company's govern them down we even had software to turn down the Hp and Trq and they can't idle any more so you can't warm them up and you cant break them in right so after about 80K they start falling apart. crap they even silenced the mighty Jakebrake.
Disgraceful..
I've had allot of jobs but damn I hated working on big rigs.
If you want to know the engine to go with, look at what the Bull haulers run Cats and cums and old school Detroit's most run a 379 Pete and a big yeller cat plugged in to a 18 DD/O tranny..
got one up to 140 one time :wasntme:

I don't know what you guys did to your trucks, but my dads have been farm trucks, used hard and the only problems (other than routine maintenance) we have had is a wheel bearing... Been very reliable, and cheap to run, especially when you factor in the great mileage.

You are right, maybe things will change now that Ford is making their own engine.

'hah'
I know how you are, so im fairly sure your effin with me right now... :)

I hope so anyways!
You hope wrong. We have had two 2500s, one 2000 and one 2004, both Duramax. If you compare them to a Superduty of the equivalent year, I would choose the duramax based on the powertrain alone. That truck flat out pulls.

Now, if you had that engine in a superduty, that would be a perfect truck! :D

I still don't get why its just fine to put a cummins in a ford, but not an Isuzu (not a chevy) Duramax...

I have heard of the dt466...
that would be interesting swap...
Haven't seen the cat though.
have any links by chance?

Here's a pic of a DT360 in a 99 Sooper Duty(I can link to a video of it doing a burnout too), and a Cat C7(3126) in a 90-something F350. I thought I added those pix to my Low Buck Site, but I'll have to fix that soon. I almost went thru with swapping in a DT466 in a SD, but had to back out. This time around, I'm going for the "All Ford drive train". A Sterling will replace the 9".

You are one of a handfull of people i have heard talk good about the duramax.
Im not sayin they are horrid engine by anymeans, i have had nothing but bad luck with them. In personal use and in work use. Add to the fact that i really hate the interiors on the chevies. I wont ever own one.

Isuzu makes the duramax, chevy cant even succesfully pull off a diesel engine.
That would be swapping in a competitors engine.

Cummins is a standalone engine supplier, who ever wants one, gets one...
Thats how it is.
There is why i dont see the issue with the cummins swap, and i do the duramax.

I have to agree with that! cummins is not partial to any make who ever wants it gets it, and ou know with a cummins in my truck it will still be a ford. no less of one either Itll still have a ford drivetrain and will still have the blue oval out front
