I don't think it will bolt up to a 428 or 390, I say this because i've seen adapters for that tranny to bolt up to a 390..

Yeah the 428's are FE engines, its really just a destroked 460 I think, i'm pretty sure you can use the same heads on ether engine.

are you sure your now thinking of the 429? which is a destroked 460 and the heads are interchangeable for more cubes (lower compression though)

So the 428 is FE? a bored 390 or ??
The 428 is the engine you never hear about, its like a 352 haha

I think the 428 is a stroked 427 and I'm pretty sure it was only put in cars like Galaxy's Ect.
No its not a bored out 390.

thats like a .125 overbore for 1 cubic inch...why bother lol

Ive seen alot of 428's in late early mid 70's F 250/350s

example http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/cto/973920255.html

could be a swap as ive never heard of the 428 as a stock truck engine, but i almost bought an F250 highboy with a 428 that was swapped in from another ford truck

The 428 is bored, but also stroked over a 390. They had their own blocks as the amount of material needed to take out of a 390 block is risky. I saw a write up on how to change a 390 to a 428, the hardest part would be to find a 428 crank.

Anyway, the only motors that share the bolt pattern with a 460 are the 429, 351M and 400.Also, ZF's aren't that uncommon, just look into the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks, they are common there. It is a little harder to find one with the 460, but not impossible. I pulled one out of the 92 in my sig, but it is 2wd.

as someone said the 390/428 are in the FE family of motors. The 429 and 460 are in the 385 family. They have a different bellhousing pattern, only the 351M, 400, 429 and 460 are compatiable.
