Looks like I'll be able to venture outside of 15w-40.

Spec'd across the Ford lineup, with the exception of the 4.0 V6, for a few years now, anyway...

*My local Ford store didn't know that. That's why they don't get my business anymore.

For the 4.6 and 5.4, I don't recommend anything BUT 5w-20...

5w30 in both the ranger and the S-blazer. pennzoil conventional. motorcraft filter for the ranger, fram for the S-blazer. both still carry good oil pressure, minimal oil useage and no ticking noises. ranger is at 130,000 and change, the S-blazer is at 175,000 and change. the blazer engine actually uses/leaks less than the ranger, has 180 psi compression on all 6 cyl, and will get 23 highway mpg when its nice out. the ranger gets a oil change every 3,000 miles (which is about 4-5 months) the blazer gets a oil change every 4,000 miles (which is about every 3 months) both are down about 1/2 qt when its time to change. and the ranger oil is "dirtyer" must have more blowby, its certianly worked hard from time-to-time. ranger is a 4.0 ohv, blazer is the 4.3

Just as a tidbit of info...the owners maunal for the Mustang says every 10k for oil changes. Take that for what it's worth. Oil to be used is MC 5w-20.
