Fronts are actually replacement cartridge type, don't have to replace the whole unit. Seen them go longer than that, depends how worn they are. Do a bounce test, basically push down real hard on the front bumper to see how many thimes it bounces, and then you can get an idea of condition. Best is down then up, but more likely they would go down, up down. Any more than that, they should be replaced.

They must still be arlight, cause they don't bounce alot, and it still rides smooth. I just wish it was a little stiffer...

I'll try the bounce test tommorrow.

BTW, I got the truck running... I changed the coil out for the old one, and cleaned the points with the finest sandpaper I could find (I'm thinking it was 400grit), and it fired right up... it's still running like crap and missing.... but it's running. I dunno where to go from here though... Points are set on 17, so that should be close... and plug wires are new.

Plugs are not in best shape, but I pulled the first two plugs, and put some old ones back in it cause these where WET with gas. I fired it up, it still missing, let it run 15 seconds or so, killed it and checked the first two plugs. They where wet again...

EDIT: I forgot to add, it's blowing blueish smoke out like nobodys business... it's never done that before. Dunno if I'v got a broke ring or if it's just unburt gas. Also, I revved it to probably 2500rpm real quick (3/4 throttle) cause it was about to die.. and I heard a *POP!* and puff of smoke came from somewhere near the carb.. dunno if it just backfired through the carb or what. Would a head gasket pop like that?

No its probly just valve seats smokin a little bit from sittin alot. The pop sounds like a carb backfire. Check the timing and see where its at.

It ran for probably 5 minutes, and didnt clear up..

Probly oughta drive it a ways to get it used to runnin again and to get the valve seals sofened back up.

It sat for probably 13 or so years before I got it... :headbang:

I can't "drive" it, but I can let it run in the driveway. well, I guess I could... All I'd have to do is get the flat tire fixed, put one of the inner fenders back on (to bolt the radiator to), and take the hood off.

I now know where I'm headed with this project...
