smilieFordlogo ..aight yall ive noticed that my edelbrock performer 600cfm carb has caused me many a problem....( it fept flooding itself out...fixed that....it doesent want to seem to stay set...kinda fixed.....it runs rich no matter how its calibrated...not fixed...and it seems to have caused me to mis on 1 cyl. at idle but run fine while driving) should i return it for a new one since my warranty is still valid or should i junk it and go holley? and if i go holley whats a decent model of at least 600cfm that wont destroy my fuel eco.?

If it's running rich...you tried rejetting? And quite honestly, a 600cfm carb is pretty big for a 351w...that's what came stock on a 460, and could be part of your problem...bigger isn't always better when it comes to carbs. Personally, I prefer Holley's as opposed to Eddy's for the same reasons you stated that you were displeased. On top of that, the Holley cfm rating is actually more accurate because it's wet flow tested as opposed to dry flow like Eddy...which is the main reason you can squeak a few more hp outta Holley carbs. As for what carb to use...I'm a fan of any of the 4150's...they just give you more control...the 4160 is essentially the same carb...and more user friendly out of the box. So if I were you...I'd go with a max of 600cfm electric choke and vac. secondaries...if it meets those criteria...I think you'll be happy.

You see Ben i've been told by many the very opposite of what you said.
I've heard a 600+ is perfect for a 302, I've jetted my 600holley WAY the heck down there I mean way way and still run rich.

I think you just answered your own problem...jetted down and still rich...hmmm...I wonder why. Unless you're pushing 3-350hp, there's no need for anything over 600cfm...and you'll have the problems being described. I mean hell...your 302 is giving up 158cubes to the 460...so why on earth do you figure you'd need the same size carb? Over carbing is a rampant problem.

Carbs are easy...you should be able to fix it on your own...here's a decent article on tuning Eddies:

http://www.mustangandfords.com/techarticles/mufp_0501_edelbrock_carb_tuning/index.html

And this should lead you to anything you would wanna know about your carb:

And the top to FAQ's should help:
