It irritates me to no end when someone goes tu-tone and just uses the upper trim. Use the fulle race track or don't use any at all.

When I see prices like that...and I know what I've sunk in to my Bronco, if spending an extra thousand or two would have been choice.

I think this is priced pretty reasonably....if I hadn't bought my bump, this would have gotten serious consideration for my winter work truck....only negative is being in GA would have me had to add on a grand or so in fuel getting it home.

Maybe my wife will let me get a third truck!

Looks like a good woods beater...but I'm not so sure I'd want to rely on it for a reliable winter rig without making it over some. First, Swampers of that size wouldn't be fun on the ice and snow, although doable. Second, the locker, can cause some hairy driving characteristics...again though, doable, just not something I'd want to deal with on a daily basis. Lastly, as mentioned, I'm not a big fan of picking up builds like that, unless you have intricate knowledge of what was done and how it was done...because it's not fun inheriting other people's problems.

Yeah, it's what Doug was saying as well.....it's why I ask you fellas....would save me a lot.....I almost took a bunch of pictures of the bump and put them on here to ask about.....it was in the middle of winter when this guy kept trying to get me to buy, so pictures was a no go as he had this thing buried (why some of the minor rust issues, but hardly an issue and I'm going to tinker some this summer as you know). Also, when we finally agreed to a price I'd pay, I took it for a spin to a trusted mechanic of mine and once I got the ok from him, I made an impulse buy on it as I really wanted it!

Difference is, as you both pointed out, you know what's been done to the bump; absolutely nothing! Other than taking off the lights, winch and pumps, this thing is as is from the factory with low mileage on it and it shows.

My thought on the swampers was to get reasonable sizes on there....rims ar 15" so I could've dropped down to 33's or 35's in A/T.

No doubt...it's tough to find something 10 years old that hasn't been hacked or messed with...much less 30+ years. Inheriting some issues is inevitable, but without thorough inspection, I'm not a fan of buying a used rig with what most would call considerable modifications...ie the lift...did they just throw springs on, or did they see the whole thing through...lockers and gears, did some hack throw them in...and you'll be facing at least $500 in parts and labor to replace the gears, not to mention another $5-800 to replace a locker if need be. Etc etc.

With as much winter weather as you get, my concern would have been finding a more suitable tire for the weather. Not that swampers and other aggressive tires can't be used in the snow, people do it all the time, I'd just want the drive to be a little friendlier with as much snow time as that thing would see. And if you did drop tire sizes, inevitably, you'd want to take some of the lift out...which is more work on you or you paying someone to do it.

I don't know about the bump, but if the dent still has the factory setup, it would either be an open differential or a limited slip differential. If the tag is still on the differential and there is an "L" on the tag, then you have a limited slip.

That's a loaded question...open carrier is what I've found to be most common, but they could be ordered with a limited slip (which could be decoded by the warranty plate or on the BOM tag of the axle)...but seeing as they're 30+ years old, it's possible anything could have been swapped in. To get a little better answer, you can jack up your rear wheels (make sure the front is on jack stands as well), put it in netural and spin on tire with your hand...and see what happens. Or pop the 3rd member or diff cover and have a looksee.
