ive put 3 thermostats in in about 2 year, one about a year or so ago.

But when i took, my truck in for the tranny, they said my clutch fan was loose, could a stuck on all the time clutch fan cause the truck to never heat up?

Will give more info in a bit..gotta runn to class

if the clutch was loose the fan wouldnt work right.. so the truck should run hotter than normal...

theres a tsb on heater cores for these trucks... mayb yours is bad

take a infared thermometer and at op temp take a reading of the inlet and outlet hose on the radiator and see what u get

Just don't use on of the HF ones. They are no where near accurate.

Side note: Did you check to see if the thermostats actually opened and closed properly before you installed them? I usually boil mine (to open) and let cool down (to close).

Loose fan sounds like it would not spin. However, if it is indeed locked solid, it could keep the engine from warming up (in your colder climate) at highway speeds.

Factory fans are made to not spin at higher speeds (clutch fans). The flex fans change shape and do not move as much air even though they are spinning all the time.

Have you checked the temperature of the actual coolant to confirm that it's not getting warm? Could be a faulty gauge.

Your engine has reached an almost unreachable condition "Peak Efficency" 100% use of energy, 0% lost as heat. leave well enough alone. just kidding!

Try putting a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator.

Maybe it's too efficient for you climate.

way ahead of you alarm.

Went out and had to do some things,
Pulled the cap after 20 mins of driving, no pressure release. I was like wtf. So i went and bought a cap and topped off the coolant. Put a pizza box behind the grill.

Still didnt warm up til i drove on the highway at 75mph for about 6 miles. Heated up to operating temp. Heater blew cold after it had been working (wtf????), few weeks ago. after i got off the highway. it steadily dropped back down to the start of the reading area. way away from N

feel around on the engine(carefully don't want to be like Carl)

It sounds like a blockage problem.

so yea i went out with offroad club today. me being the only 2wheel drive. went through every mudhole and obstacle except one hil because i didnt think i could make it and i didnt wanna back down it...so i went around.

The last trail of the day and the clutch fan shit on me....she didnt overheat, but started to heat up so we stopped. I removed the cardboard. cooled it down to cold. then made a trail fix some string around the rod so that way it would make resistance and spin. go her out of there.

ONe funny thing, we were crossing a frozen over stream, i mean like 6 inches deep. the 20 trucks infront of me went over it with it frozen. it broke when i was halfway across and i still made it. the way back 3 4wds got stuck going through. I didnt get stuck once..

I had to be smarter about the route i chose...but i never got stuck

Anthony: I felt your pain today (not as bad though). I drove the 56 up into Missouri. The temperatures dropped as I went further north. So did the temp gauge on the dash. I have an 180 degree thermostat. Most of the trip...the truck stayed around 150. No heat in the cab that way!

No heat in the cab that way!

Sounds like my old 66 F100.

If it was less than 40* you froze to death. Heater couldn't keep up, besides those old trucks aren't sealed as well as the newer ones.

My cab is tight. No leaks in the automatic car washes. No wind noise inside (believe me...my implant would be howling if it did).

The heater floor/defrost works well when the engine will stay warm. It has all been rebuild/replaced. I need to block some of the airflow with some cardboard on the freezing days.

I was going to suggest that (cardboard).

That truck interior is sweet.

A friend of mine in TN has door panels they made for a custom 56 that the owner changed his mind on the design after they were made and paid for(rich guy  ). He is going to modify them to fit my stock doors (door handles and window cranks) over the winter and send them to me too.

When I had my old Ford I was toying with an idea to put some louvers in front of the radiator controled with a choke cable type activator for those cold days, so I didn't have to keep a piece of cardboard behind the seat.
