Umm, the truck sounds like it is going to explode at 2500rpm. :suspicious:

She also smokes a good bit at the bottom of the gears. (Example: driving in OD just above 45mph and smoking like a mofo. I could shift to 4th, but the truck doesn't feel right @ 2500rpm.)

Right now, I can't see how it would even be able to reach 60mph without redlining.

45 and overdrive is not a good plan... Sounds like you may have to do a little work. Make sure the air filter is clean enough, the fuel filter as well. It is possible the injectors are worn, could be the injection pump needs set properly... hard to call from minimal info.

I just feel that it is running a little hard when above 2000rpm.

like fellro said i would try changing the fuel filter if you havent done it recently. I do mine on my diesel every oil change. Or it could be the injector pump.

The truck's been sitting for a while, so I'm assuming the filters need changing.

Sounds like a good place to start... These motors open the injectors by fuel pressure. If the fuel is restricted, it causes problems with timing since the injectors will open later. Had a filter plug up on me, thought it was the wind, but started to realize it wasn't that bad, unhooked the trailer to head back in to town to get a filter, and it was just about as bad, no power at all. Changed the filter, ran like I was used to.
