well tomorrow im going to my dads house and we're gonna double check all the motor mounts and tranny mounts and make sure the Trans Crossmember isnt loose. and we're gonna check the u-joints also.

and if all of this is good im gonna have the tranny serviced.

and if its still vibrating ill get the Flexplate done.

i bet havin the trans service won't help anything...

the main reason im gonna do it is it needs to be done anyways. and i was talking to Brad and he was telling me bout his old 97 that had vibrations and shutters and he said he changed the Fluid and it fixed it.

so i decided i might as well do it and hell if it fixes it well than it was worth it. if not oh well it needed to be done anyways.

Looks like someone needs a press ;) Yes I've replaced it before it's definitely pressed onto the shaft. I used a press to get mine off and I think I would have had a real hard time without it.

WOOOO!!! im pretty sure Brad figured it out. he called me and gave me some tips and one was to make sure the U-joints were in "unison" like all 4 points on all of them be at say 12,3,6,9 oclock. well i went out and check and ill be dammed. mine werent. so tomorrow after work im gonna go and take it all apart again and put it back together correctly.

Yeah, Brad called me after he talked to you and we agreed that'd be a good start.

The big question I have is-- did this vibration start when you swapped in the new axle? If so then that narrows it down quite a bit. Couple other ideas if the u-joints don't pan out: is the pinion nut tight? Is there play in the pinion? (might need a new bearing or bushing). I also replaced a brass bushing that was in the tail housing of my transfer case (you probably have one in the tail housing on your tranny) when I was hunting down a vibration-- that could also cause a vibration like you're saying.

I don't think the flexplate is your issue because my understanding is that this is only happening at higher speeds. Everything forward of the transmission is completely speed-independent. The only things that spin at different rates with different speeds are from the trans-->back.

Start with the u-joints and report back.
