I got the job at the ford dealer, i start monday!

What should i buy for tools, i need them cause they all supply their own tools.. he told me standard set of screw drivers and an oil filter wrench...

what else should i get, for the job and home use.. i was thinking a socket set..

how much money do you want to spend?

How about some sort of all in one tool box till you really get in there and see what you need? Certainly not the same quality of VInce's box but at least you could get started.

A lot depends on the work you will be doing. The set that Aaron is displaying is ok for minor, basic stuff. Later, if you have the opportunity to get training, the tool trucks can put together a starter set, with whatever you want to put in it (payments too!)

I agree with Aaron. With a job position like the one you're starting (oil changes) don't spend more than like $40-50 TOPS for the entire tool set. If you decide to climb the ladder later then you can upgrade and not feel guilty for tossing the cheap set.

I gotta agree as well.......magnetic tips on the screw drivers might be a good thign too...if and when you upgrade....MAC,Mountain, SnapOn,Craftsman (although they are starting to not wanna honor their warranties),S&K,Sunnex, are all good brands and are warranted.

On another note..CaFordDude send me the link to your avatar...me likey........twas my sig once.

just add a note here, tool trucks do do payments just do not over extend yourself, i seen many of friends have their entire paycheck go to the tool trucks , and in the end have nothing. Be Careful!

I just started to work full time a few months ago at a smaller shop. I do get big jobs tho. Id say go to sears and get a like 200-300 peice set, at my sears there on sale for like 190-300 depending on what you get in it. My sears is good for changing everything. Im a cheapo and wont pay snap on and matco prices. 100 bucks for 6 screwdrivers, no way. Craftsman and there pro line is better. I just got a nice set on ebay of Blackhawk gear wreches for 149 shipped. They are your best friend. Also maxtool.com has good prices on impacts. I got the IR Ti 1000ftlbs one. Forget the exact number. You will want one especially if your oil change man, caus you will be gettin tire rotations. I just got a Husy Pro wrench set for like 45 bucks and they are long shank and polished. They have been working great.

What dealer you going to work at? If your just gonna be changing oil and recalls get a basic starter set. Will you be needing air tools also, if your gonna be rotating tires and such, if so I would recomend like a snap-on impact stay away from sears air tools they just don't last.

remember you ain't gotta go out and buy the best right off the bat...start out with a decent yet affordable set and slowly work your way up or save your money and buy a good high end kit.....

Learn all that you can, while you can. Your service manager can set you up with a stars number, then you have access to on line training.

Good to hear, I had an idea that you'd enjoy it. Especially if you're working alongside a friend. Lucky you. :)

I've always found that driving standard is about 10 times easier in a vehicle with a decent amount of low-end torque. I learned on a sunfire.. that wasn't nearly as easy.
