Cheap, and more than likely an easy fix.
Cheap, and more than likely an easy fix.
what about the brain box mounted on the fenderwell...the ones that melt and get all gooey......that's what I was referring to...
I just found this one on eBay. The auction says '78 F-150 4x4 but the VIN says '78 F-250 4x2 w/460.
I asked the seller what the deal was and he replied the following:
"yeah, I dont know. I've had that asked before. That's the vin on the vehicle and the title."
Here's the link.

I already asked him that in his last auction. He never did list the VIN error in his ad though so someone will be in for a suprise. He also never bothered to post my question in the ebay auction like he did all the rest,
My 1st email to him:
How come your VIN# is X25 and not X14? X25 is a VIN# for a 2wd supercab. X14 is a VIN# for a 4wd supercab. That is not the correct VIN# for the truck you are listing or someone has swapped the door tags around.
His reply:
couldnt tell you. This is obviously 4wd.
So I sent him this:
Thanks for letting me know it is 4wd. I would of never knew that. Obviously the VIN number you are listing is incorrect for the truck your selling. X25 is a 2 wheel drive 3/4 ton truck VIN number. The VIN number for your 1/2 ton 4 wheel drive truck your selling should start with X14. You may want to post that information in your ad so the unaware buyer is not suprised.
And got back this:
the vin is correct. its right off the title and vechicle
So one more email:
If you look at the topside of the passenger side frame rail close to the firewall you'll find the "correct" VIN number for the truck your selling. Ford stamped the VIN number on the frame. I'll guarantee it does not match the title nor the door tag. I'm telling you again that is not the correct VIN number for the truck your selling. You are going to find that it is going to come back to haunt you when the new owner goes to register it. Do you honestly think that what I'm telling you is false information? I've been around these trucks for over 20 years.
And his last reply:
Thanks for your input but its registered just fine for me and the other owners that previously owned it so facts say your wrong. OH, I've been around trucks for 35 years. What exactly does that prove?
My last respone to him:
You got a nice truck, I'm not doubting that. If you have been around them so long you would know that the VIN number is not right for the truck your selling. Go check your frame rail. I think you'll find the VIN numbers don't match. Good luck with your sale.
Did anyone catch this ?
