Tansmsision Cooler Upgrade

My Bronco currently has one on there. I'm wondering if it would be beneficial if i upgraded to one like this.
1. Would the transmission have to be bleed?
2. Does that one mount like the stock one?
3. If yes to 2 and no to 1 would it just be swapping lines, and removing the old one.
4. Would it be worthwhile to do this upgrade in the first place?

Then I'd save the money and put it towards something else.

I swapped to a similar cooler and it has seemed to help my trans temps, but I will say that it was NOT an easy project. The brackets are wildly different for the stock cooler and I had to have Trista's dad throw together some brackets for me to make it work. That was only the start of the battle... I initially used compression fittings that all screwed together but it leaked like a sieve. Then I tried cutting the lines and using hose barbs w/ rubber hose-- still friggin leaked. Finally got a tip from the parts guy at Kragen (of all people) to put RTV on the threads and that sealed it right up.

No you don't need to bleed the system. Just might have to top it off a bit after you get the new one in because you'll lose some of the fluid that was in the old cooler.

For me it was worth it because I need to tow a very heavy boat and my trans needs all the help it can get. But if you're just doing mild towing (as you should be doing with a bronco... it's not meant to pull giant loads) then you're probably just fine witha stock cooler.

Sounds like I'm not going to upgrade than thanks Chris.

I pull an 8ft trailer with my bronk, its the same size of a long bed, I have my old F350's plastic bed liner in there to make the sides higher so I can fit more in. I fill that little trailer with just as much or more wood then Id put in the F350's bed. You just have to use the gears right. On the AOT/AOD trans, there is no 2nd but you can get to it and hold it there. Pull lever into 1st, then start driving, when your ready to shift, move lever into D, then when it shifts into 2nd, throw it back into 1, and it will hold 2nd gear and wont shift to 3rd. I use that on the bronk when plowing and towing. These trans shift way too early and then it just has to down shift again. Pain in the butt. Also I change my trans fluid alot, I welded a bolt into the pan so I dont have to drop it every time to get the fluid out. I change the filter once a year, and the fluid every other oil change.

I got it in my F350, I only like the trans with a shift kit, they arnt bad if there taken care of. I change my fluid every year no matter the mileage, oil brakes down and cant do its work. The E4OD doesnt have much line pressure stock, the shift kits changes the pressure and makes it higher and a much better trans. My 200 buck reman trans (used lol) with the shift kit, works really nice, even tho I had to use parts from my 95's trans as this 1 came from an 89 and had a diferent solonoid pack, and shift linkage. Trans is on its 3rd year and still shifting great.

Personaly experience, the AOD is garbage...but some guys do like them. I know I've had issues with stockers (2) and rebuilt (3) units within a matter of 100k and the majority of those miles were flat highway miles (80%) with some mountains thrown in there (20%).

I think I got 147K on the orig unit in the bronk, doesnt seem to ever been replaced. And I beat the piss outta it. I dont think there bad, I change the fluid alot, maybe its just the maintance of the trans that counts. Just changed the engine oil today, 1000K on full syn(was black like no other, plowing) and I also dumped the trans fluid also(i have a drain bolt on the pan) It only takes 4.5qts so I dont mind doing it every time I change the oil.

flush

the only way to do it right is to flush. this gets all the fluid out of the valve body, .
and all iv read tells me that for every 20degress increase in fluid your trans lif is reduced by half. 80% falures are from oil breakdown(getting hot).
im more convinced to add a cooler and filter.
