Tank switch problem

I had been noticing a gas smell when near the truck after running it, and found that the tank switch is leaking. Unfortunately, these trucks are where I don't know a lot, so it looks kind of like it can be disassembled, is there anything more to this switch than simply changing which tank it gets fuel from? 88 F250 351w....

It is leaking pretty heartily... did some checking around, and not anything realistically serviceable inside, so I guess I'll have to look for a replacement...

I had an 88 250 and as I recall it is one of just a couple years when the switch was completely mechanical. It just works off pressure from which tank is pumping into it.

Yep, that would be correct, next problem is figuring out what to do about it... it leaks pretty badly...

Which vehicle is this for Roger? You said gas but both of the trucks in your sig have diesel engines...

In addition..what exactly do you mean by tank switch?

R U speaking of the 6 (or 3 in some cases) ported plastic valve mounted on the frame? What yr and engine size? (It's prolly E5TZ9189B, a POS since day one).

Only the ported plastic valve can leak fuel. The electrical switch under the dash only shifts electric current from one tank pump to the other. IIRC

Yes, I know that part, it switches the other in tank pump on, it is the ported valve that is the problem.... it is 6 port. Been thinking of maybe putting the check valve setup I have from taking the 460 out of the 92 on instead...

Hi Bill! how was the car show?

dont forget about the F1UZ9B263B

Really need to see if there is a ID number on the old part to make sure you get the right one.

Is there really any reason a 6 port switching valve wouldn't work? As long as it is set up for a return feed, i don't see what the problem would be.
