Tailgate panel

Does anyone know where you can get these panels? - on mine the stainless steel panel is ok but the plastic insert is long gone .... i've been thinking of making one up from a piece of colored perspex and bonding it to the s/s panel - has anyone tried that before.

Hate to say it but that panel looks pretty heavily oxidized. I've got 2 panels in pretty good shape if you're willing to pay the high shipping cost.

 :eek:I just checked on fedex and they say $442.00 what a kick in the 'balls' for that idea - thanks for the offer though Chris..... i cant understand how they charge so much as a few months ago Roger (fellro) put me onto carpart.com and i found a complete manual conversion kit including nv4500 and transfer case for my friends k2500 chev and shipping was just over $300.00 usd from long beach ca to timaru n.z.

Ken (taxreliever) had a post on here not long ago with a custom tailight tailgate - i know mines a gen 8 but i might be able to do something along those lines - what do you think?

They r hard to come bye nice. Not all had . Clean yours polish it .and make a filler .

Anything can be done to customize. I see over $300 in paint and fab work if you can not do your self. on the old 79 above

Yep after messing round on the computer last night i can get a strip of clear perspex 1/8 thick that i can fit into the panel - i'm thinking that i will glue a couple of ford badges on the inside of the perspex then spray paint it and glue it to the s/s panel..... now just to get some time to do this when its not raining/snowing

1987/91 & 1992/96 ANODIZED ALUMINUM (not stainless!) tailgate finish panels (1987/91 is different than 1992/96) are obsolete. No FoMoCo Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.

The red or black plastic insert was not available by itself, only furnished with the panels.

Carpenters repro truck parts catalog sez coming but has said that for three years...mebbe longer.

Polishing aluminum: First the anodized has to be stripped off...then polish and polish and polish, and...

Keep on polishing because if you don't, the aluminum will begin to oxidize within a short time.

Be careful if using a buffer, cuz a buffer can whiz thru aluminum in a NY minute.

If these panels were stainless steel, they wouldn't oxidize.

Look at all the stainless steel hubcaps Ford has used since grandma was a gal...how many have you seen that have oxidized?

I have the plastic panel you are in search of.....

Still plugging away at those quotes Don - luckily for me i'm playing at being a stay at home dad for the moment as Joy is in Nelson running the pub so i have plenty of time when the kids are at school to chase this thing up - just the different time zones means i'll be spending a bit of time at 3am in the morning on the phone..... all good though as kids aren't fighting then lol.

I believe (and I can't believe I'm gonna say this) that LMC has the entire panels, but I think retail is upwards of $6-700.

Hate to say it but that panel looks pretty heavily oxidized. I've got 2 panels in pretty good shape if you're willing to pay the high shipping cost.

I thought we had a deal worked out??? I've had the cash and keep waiting and you keep telling me you have to wait to go back to your mom's. And I believe last time you told me her garage flooded, so you'd have to inspect the damage to the panels? Safe to assume there's no damage and you'll let me know what I owe you for shipping?

Ben I've got 2 panels so I figured it'd be nice to offer 1 to him. House is finally liveable (the entire house flooded, not the garage) so I'll have a look to see if there's damage next time I'm up there. I don't think there is because there was only a minimal amount of water in the garage.
