tail shaft dust cover

Hello,
I'm trying to replace the centre uni on a 83 long wheel base f100.
Can someone tell me how I remove the dust cover that protects the spline, I have tried a few things but nothing is working. I do not want to destroy it trying to remove it.
It looks like a ring of metal with a rubber inner.
thanks
Greg

Generally, just drive it from behind to get it to come off the slip yoke.

Are you talking about the rear seal in the transmission?
Please post a picture so we can understand more clearly where you are talking about

That was what I thought you were talking about. The slip yoke on the last driveshaft, right after the carrier bearing.

Sorry, I will try to be a bit more descriptive in the future.
I finally removed it, hitting it with a hammer and punch was no use, I may need a bigger hammer, in the end I put a radiator clamp around the tailshaft so I had something to lever against, it was still a pain.
I have the new uni, now for the next bit of fun.
