That's what Gpacks are for you can make a I300 sound like a dragster :) gpacks are for mall crawlers that just want people to notice them.

Mall crawler huh...tell that to my Bronco when she's on upper tellico. Or Red when she used to tear through mud pits. It's simple, look at dissected views, the gpack is straight through, which equals better flow. Better flow and less resistance equals more power and more sound.

Oh yeah...one more thing...you do realize there are gpacks out there that you wouldn't even be able to hear right. The shorter the length and bigger the case diameter the louder. I know guys who have 44"long 2.25" diameter gpacks and you can't even hear their truck running.

Then why even have them..

Becuase they're still a straight through design allowing better flow. Some guys like quiet exhausts, some like it loud, and the stupid like it tinny and buy just because of the hyped name.

I was reading a study in a magazine some years ago and they were talking about flow rates vs engine types, and if I remember 100% right they said that running high flowing systems can hurt performance on low turning engines like truck engines, had allot to do with back pressures and they showed on a dyno with a BBF IIRC...

Yep...you're 100% right Tex...but the backpressure has more to do with exhaust pipe diameter, and not necessarily the muffler.

Really! i've never been able to get info on right pipe diameters, is running bigger size pipes and just running them shorter and not going all the way out the back of the truck or vice versa..
The pips one my truck are only 2 1/2 and I hate the way they sound but I can't ever get what size I should be going with..

I'm assuming a dual setup...and if so, 2.5" pipe is pretty big for a stock engine. 2.25" is about the max you should go with a stock engine and duals. 2.5" pipe is what you should run on mild builds. I run 2.5" on my rigs, all of them are right around 350hp/440tq. Then 3" is what hear you should run for moderate to wild builds...but I'm not sure about wild builds and beyond.

I talked to 3 different shops and was told 3 different things, all the way from 1" pipes to 3 1/4..

WTH...you need to go to a different shop. Stock pipe was 1 7/8". 3.25" pipe is extremely too big. Stick to what I stated above, and you won't be disappointed. Little tip if you want to add a H or X pipe...spray paint your exhaust pipe, and where the burnoff stops...that's where you want to put the H/X pipe.

What would that do? great tip by the way but I thought X/H pipes were for modern cars with cats, ect.

Not just for new stuff...just equalizes pressure and produces even better flow. However, if it's not setup properly (wrong place, pipes aren't continuously equidistant) they're useless.

Hmm! i'll have to hack it out thanks man.
Also when I do my system I want the pipes coming out in front of my back tires.

Hey Ben-- those pipe diameters you're talking about, those are for true dual setups? Like running dual 2.25" pipes or dual 3" pipes? My pipes are around 2" off the manifolds then they converge to a single 3" pipe.

BlowMaster sucks...go with a CherryBomb.

I agree you want to sound like EVERY OTHER TRUCK with an exhaust job. Go Blowmaster.
Don't make the muffler gods angry with your foolish statements...
You just did with that statment ;)
You guys are nuts. When you're sick of the 'tinny' little boy sound and wanna grow up...come talk to me.
Or me, me and utfball are on the same page with this one.

Does your truck have a 351 or a 5.0?

It also depends on how long your primary tubes are here, the primaries would be the 2.25" tubes.
3" wouldn't be bad for a 5.8l.
Yes ben was talking about true duals.

Tex, with your 5.0, you will lose tq, if your pipes are to big, and if you are running 2.5 duals, you are losing tq, thats what im running on my truck, no cats dumped before the rear axle, tucked up into the frame almost.

Go to MTZ muffler on the corner of university and clovis highway, does good work, just make sure he uses 2 hangers per side, he didnt on mine and i had lots of problems, until he added another hanger near the motor...

Exiting in front of the rear tires is not a problem. Alot of people will make that turn, leave 1" of pipe or so then add tips. tips will change sound in case you didnt know.
As a reference, he did mine, headers back, and 2 knock off glass packs for 225....

I got true duals on mine comin out before the rear tires. The mufflers were supposedly flowmaster but I cant find any names on em. I also have tips on em and it sounds good and is plenty loud. My pipes are 2.5" from the maniflods back. I got the mufflers and tips for free so I put em on cause the ones I had were too quiet. My jeep has duals that come out before the rear tire and has cherry bomb mufflers not glass packs but it dont sound the best cause its a v6. 85 has 3" single and sonds good when your outside but ya cant hear it in the cab.
