Water pump is driven off the timing belt on most of these engines. Bet the pump went out and that its what took belt the first time. It is normal practice to replace the water pump and all the idler and tensioned pulleys when replacing the timing belt.

Does it really run and drive
Perfect? If your a tooth or 2 off you can have issues with heating and cooling as well.

But the water pump is a viable option as well.

Yup! You guys are right to AGAIN! There's so much with newer vehicles, it almost reminds me of relating it to the tax code and how much each thing affects the other, but I've always wondered (owning my 77 and even when I owned the 70), that there aren't the same issues with the newer vehicles than with the older ones are there?

My dent is pretty much new and has been virtually maintenance free since I've owned it, but I've always wondered.

I got stung once and only once on not changing a water pump when I was in there. Now I make it be done or I don't do the job.

Did that on the SHO when I owned it, had a pump issue. Replaced it, the timing belt, the crank sensor and the PS pump because it was leaking as well... that was an expensive job since it said SHO on the intake...

Taurus SHO, had a '93 with the 3.2 Yamaha V6. Parts for that engine were like buying for a high end Euro car... $110 just for plug wires, water pump was around $80, crank sensor was in the $50 range...

I had a good chunk of cash into that car...

The acronym stands for "Super High Output". It was a performance option.

Like Eric said, they were fun until you had to start buying parts for them.

Mainly engine parts, the rest of the car was Sable/Taurus...

Only picture I have accessable at this point... was just after I picked up the Vic and was swapping the tires...

Ahhh...thanks. If you're going to spend that much on maintenance, might as well have a BMW or something. smilieFordlogo

Nah, I could thump on everything but the perfomance minded cars, most Mustangs, just about every import, Camaros, some Vettes. And when you'd tell them they just got beat by a Taurus, the look was priceless...
